But MB for E doesn’t do half the things MB for AE does. However, you should investigate my Film Effects plugins at http://www.nattress.com which do all the MB does in AE, all MB for E does in FCP and more, and I do believe, better. Film Effects does full, high quality 24p simulation, chroma fixing etc. etc., with more than enough tonal controls to get the look you need, at a fraction of the price.

FCP is notorious for playing video low rez in the canvas or viewer. You really need to be seeing it on your TV monitor.
BTW, the de-interlacers included in my Film Effects package are very much superior to the in-built ones.

If you just speed up 24p to 25p you don’t need any conversion hardware at all, the picture is also perfect. Cinema Tools will do this for you with the “conform” option.

Well, given that Canon sales rep that I spoke to seemed woefully ignorant of these incompatibilities, and that no deck has been announced from Canon, and I’ve not seen Sony announce a new deck either, and given that Canon have NEVER made a video deck (only cameras), I severely doubt there’s any solution on the horizon. I’d not be holding my breath…..

It won’t belong before 30f and 24f are supported eh? So Canon are making a deck are they? Or Sony will support it like they don’t support JVC’s? The lack of standardization and deck support for HDV is a nightmare. If you’re a post house wanting to support all HDV formats, you need an awful lot of gear….

There’s probably a switch somewhere on the J-30 that’s not in the right position – that’s my guess. Blacks should be at zero in FCP.

Didn’t realize it was 24pA. With that, when you capture with the right preset, FCP automatically removes pulldown. Then you can batch conform to 25p in cinema tools very easily. When you bring the video into the PAL timeline, you just have to scale up to PAL size, and it will look great.
The only issue is this is not online / offline workflow friendly, but DV files are that small, I’d just do it all online. It would be cheaper to buy more hard drives if needed than the time you’d waste troubleshooting an online.
