I’ve never managed to see the 10bit advantage my self in FCP. I’m not even convince fully that FCP treat 10bit with full respect.

I use two 23″ displays and a 9″ NTSC/PAL monitor. Why? 1 23″ is my normal mac screen. On the second I put my programming tools for developing plugins or use it as a HD monitor via the HDLInk from FCP, and the 9″ is for checking what interlaced video looks like, proper video levels etc.

For monitoring, SDI will give best, followed by component, then S-Video and composite at the bottom. I’d say, you want at least s-video monitoring, but it’s sometimes uselful to monitor composite to check for composite artfiacts.

Jack, I need to know more about the project and audience to answer 25p or 24p fully. You can do all of this with the in-built tools in FCP, Quality of de-interlace doesn’t matter for going to DVD as it’s so much lower resolution than HD.

You’ll need a real HD monitor to see the difference in the de-interlacers. FCP doesn’t show interlaced video right, so it’s going to be hard for you to tell. They all look subtley different.
For 50i to 24p, you need to de-interlace, bump the video to uncompressed, and use cinema tools to conform. That’s the best way.

Panasonic isn’t telling. All we can do is look at the pictures the camera makes and see if we like them or not.

Check the “setup” settings in the IO control panel while you’re on.
