I have also tested the version 3.1.0 which indeed works with Davinci Resolve
but after a while on several Mac machines including newest MACPRO and IMAC
the Eucontrol application started to crash everytime when it starts…

The version 3.1.2 does not crash and works stable but it does not support Davinci
Resolve application with the Avid Color panel. The only Avid Artist Control panel is
supported by Davinci Resolve.

For now the only version 2.7.1 works without issues under Mavericks.

Each Avid panel is connected to each dedicated gigabit ethernet switch with its own
IP address connected to special USB3 to Gigabit adapter ( according to Avid
thunderbolt gigabit adapter is not supported yet…) with different lan IP address
as the main ethernet MAC PRO or IMAC address.

For example if IMAC uses IP 191.1.1.1 ethernet address
then the special gigabit adapter uses 193.1.1.1
address and then the Avid panel uses IP 193.1.1.2. So the special branch of ethernet
is starting with 193… and it is on its own dedicated switch just for the panels.
This works uder 2.7.1 without any issues and the panel never loose the connection.

But if you use IP 191.1.1.2 for adapter and 191.1.1.3 for the Avid panel
then under 2.7.1 the Eucontrol application can not find sometimes all the panels although the iMac has different 191.1.1.1 IP address…
because all the addresses are starting with 191… and the panel sometimes disconnects…

But under 3.1.2 all the addresses can start with 191… without the issues but the
Davinci Resolve is not supported by the Avid Color panel. Even if you change the
panel configuration under Davinci Resolve to none and you restart the application and
you set it again to Avid Color and you restart it again and the you found out that when you start again the application the Avid Color panel is not supported.

I hope that Avid will again support the Davinci Resolve in the future!

Hi,

You can use both at the same time under Avid 2.7.1 drivers. The Artist Control is specially useful
when programed with all grade banks up to Z, with saving to banks or loading from banks,
with all sorts of dynamic and static key framing, and automatic nodes creation from serial , parallel,
layer, serial + CPW, ++++. please know that yoo can program it for every function of the Davinci Resolve application! For example when yoo are doing power windows, vignettes and etc… yoo can have beside also gamma and luma tools and not as it is on Artist Color when you do softening on the vignette
you must again scroll through pages for example some luma manipulation and then again scrolling for
pan or tilt or zoom of the vignette… what a waist of time. With the Artist Control you can really fly!!!

With touch of the on screen button yoo can go to the page with all sort of geometery manipulation, softness of the inside outside power windows in the nodes in instant and beside also key framing buttons and for example luma and gamma tools without any scrolling and yoo can be much much faster!!!

And with the Artist Color yoo shall use then only for the balls and whells!
Both interfaces are really amazing except of the lack of AVID not supporting
Davinci Resolve with the Artist Color under 3.1.2 driver.

I hope that this shall change soon and that Davinci shall be supported again!

Hi,

I have now for three months the Sonnet Tango 3.0 cards in Sonnet Echo III-R
and Sonnet Echo II enclosures without any issues. These are fantastic cards
with Apple native USB 3 and Firewire 800 support!
And the enclosures and the cards works wonderfully
over Thunderbolt 20m or Thunderbolt 30m optical cables
without any issues!

You must install Sonnet Tango 3.0 cards in these enclosures.

I have tested also Sonnet Allegro USB 3.0 cards but they are very problematic
with beta drivers, no Maverick support and they can crash your MAC especially
with Asix USB 3.0 Ethernet based adapters like STLab USB 3.0 Docking station
or Sonnet Presto USB 3.0 adapters. But these adapters work wonderfully
with Sonnet Tango 3.0 cards!

And Sonnet Allegro USB 3.0 cards are not native supported by Apple.

and this is one of the end user prices and not resale one and the offered prices when you actually buy several such cables is even lower. By the way BPM media is a great company. I have bought a lot of equipment there and they have the best service departement. When you shall actualy buy cables there they will give you much better price then it is actually displayed on their web pages because their price is now only informational and most probably they have not sold any optical thunderbolt cable yet because the market stil has not evolved…
But in december when the new Mac Pro shall be released then the story shall be quite different.

These cables are thunderblot 2 compatible. You can buy two 30m cables
for the cost of just one ATTO 10GB or Intel 10GB Ethernet card.

And the ethernet speed messured in Blackmagic Disk speed is a little less than 500 MB/s in just one thunderbolt 2 connection mode. And you can even bond the connection between the thunderbolt 2 ports in the new MACPRO for up to 1000 MB/s ethernet speed when two thunderbolt ports are used on each machine.
For that no 10 GB ethernet switch could make such bandwith in real Blackmagic disk speed tests!Maybe on paper but not in real testing.

Just test 10GB Ethernet port speed between two previous MAC PROs with 10GB Atto ethernet cards each with Areca 1882 raid controled and dedicated Netstor PCI Express storage and you shall see that Thunderbolt 2 ethernet is really the future…

As you probably know the Mavericks uses SMB2 and the speed between ordinary link agregated 1 GB ethernet ports has increased almost 2x compared to the Mountain Lion SMB measured in Blackmagic Disk Speed application what is huge achivement.

Imagine that you buy the new MACPRO and you found out that you need
more CPU power? Do not wory just buy another MACPRO hook it with
Thunderbolt cable and you have more powerful computer on the OS level
without the need of any network rendering application and etc…

This shall be reality. And Apple shall sell more MACPRO machines than
ever before…

Thunderbolt 2 Intel DSL5520 chipset hides so much more interesting things…

I just got also several Trendnet USB to Gigabit
apaters to test TU2-ETG HW:V1.3R and they 100%
support 9k jumbo frames. You just download
the latest drivers from:

And under Win 7 64 bit system devices ASIX AX88178 enable
ethernet 9k settings. It realy works. And it has the best chipset!

Under Mac OS you enable under ethernet settings under ASIX88178 adapter the MTU to 9000.

And if you have several adapters you can make bond between them.

Hi,

It can go if you make the network bond between three or four
such adapters because every USB port on the iMac supports
full USB 2.0 speed. It does not act like HUB as the previous
generations of the computers.
You can then stil use the blueteeth mouse and the keyboard.

You can also try with the Level One USB-0201 adapter which is older version and which does support the 9K. The drivers for MAC OSX you can find at this page which is OEM manufacturer for this Level One adapter:

Why some of the the newest just released USB-0401 adapters
does not support the 9K is stil the question? It supposed to support it but it looks that some of the USB-0401 adapters which are for sale in the USA use the inferior chipset AX88772A instead of the superior AX88178 which for sure supports the 9K. Anyway you can always exchange the USB-0401 adapter fot the USB-0201 if your USB-0401 does not support the 9k frames. But the USB-0201 realy does support the 9K jumbo frames.

Hi,

You enable the jumbo frames for the USB stick adapters and the
total bond in the MAC OSX network settings. Please know
that this Level One sticks are the only ones who actualy
support the up to 9k jumbo frames in their hardware
and when they are not manualy set to 9k they sepport 1,5k frames.
The bottleneck is the USB 2.0 bus which start at the around
33MB/s per every USB port. The good thing is that the
speed at the new IMac I7 does not drop when you use two and more sticks per every USB port as this was the case with the previous
IMACS USB ports which USB controllers were basicaly hubs
and the speed was shared between all the USB ports.
So basicaly you could achive even 120 Mb/s speed with four such
adapters and use the blueteeth hub for using the keyboard
and other usb stuff.

Hi,

I am setting the jumbo frame support to the Level ONE adapters
and it stays 9K. The speed is limited by the USB bus but
the 65 MB/s is excellent solution with the bond between
two USB Level One sticks. Plese know that onboard IMAC ethernet
adapter speed is limited to around 24 MB/s because it does not support the jumbo frames. And in testings there were no drop
of the usb speed when both adapters were used simultanously.
So if I then put another USB stick then the speed shoud be around
90 Mb/s and I stil have one usb port free for the dedicated
marked keyboard and mouse and Shutlle PRO all hooked on the
Belkin Hub.
