thanks, Shane.,,,because I teach BOTH Digital Imaging AND FinalCut…..color fidelity is most critical; as is simplicity/compatability in a school lab; yet, being a technical training facility, we must teach professional standards so they walk out KNOWING what they need. It can be hard. I spent 10 years in post doing national car broadcast spots; so, thank god for FinalCut, and you guys! Always a great help!

thanks so much for info and promptness!
Love you and the cow1 -
noticed in reviews some complained of a green bias…
they sound like a good value; how do they compare to an apple monitor in your opinion? -
Thanks! I’m just resetting up studio and updating, so, there’s these little glitches.
Can you recommend a forum for getting my apple cinema display into syn with my 3800 printer?.
I’ve followed the usual steps; but the display and print are not matching…..screen is more contrast-y and saturated than print…..With both of these new peripherals, I am wary of doing too much of any calibrating….and getting lost in the process…shouldn’t this be pretty simple?…like, choosing right color space…I’ve done the same thing for years, with no problems….eeek. -
ran software update; downloaded and installed current plugin for cs3, mac 10.41. (lib, app support, adobe, plugins cs3 file format)
I’m confused; it’s an NEF file…..I went back into Nikon D300 menu, reset all to default, and shot a test shot in raw with a Jpeg basic backup…..still wont’ open. Is there a bridge update as well? -
thanks so much for the quick response….
Yes, right now we use external mercury drives….and it IS good for them to learn this.
Because we are on the older G5 (non-intel)…there are certain workflow issues; as there are two inputs for a firewire connection, but only one bus….so, it won’t recognize two firewire inputs (camera digitizing and saving to firewire externals)….I am very edgy about having to set scratch disk when inputting, then changing after starting to cut…..Perhaps this is not an issue with the new ones…….?
What about this “FinalCut Server”?……what makes that different?….
Our District has an Airwave Digital Video Media Server for cablecasts….and we would like to share files with our district media people; 2nd year students could do jobs like digitizing and rough cuts; send the files over for finishing.
If we talk about that kind of file-sharing they may consider an entry-level set-up.
It’s 30 students overall; potentially 40 if they update lab this year.
We emphasize Post-Production; so, we like to create that workflow if possible….thanks…glora -
umm, nevermind….it’s always something simple, with apple, isn’t it…so simple, you overlook it!……….thanks anyway…..

talking head interviews shot on minidv Sonytrv950..firewire to NTSCDV scratch drive local HD
G5…………..dual 1.8gz G5only SOME of clips did this…..confusing..settings match for all……which made me think it was speed of server connection lagging…..

yeah, thanks, I know all that….was hoping there was just something simpler, seeing as how it’s a pretty standard set=up……
Have done all the above….I just can’t believe an apple cinema display would come out the box and need calibration……as well as brand new epson. I’ve NEVER had this happen.

well, I just got done with apple cert for fcp5, and the instructors said…..the software loses user settings when looking for files when networked.
And, they recommended the two seperate places for project/capture scratch media……the external project file being “safe” from network connection.
??????????????………it’s corruption from network server I’m concerned about…….I mean, if they are still “on” the network, even though they “save” to local internal HD, or even extneral HD…..the software is STILL looking to do what it does in terms of how/where it stores files, right?……
