July 31, 2009 at 3:27 pmThe Dell Ultrasharp series is very good and very cost efficient. Many users here use the 24″ Ultrasharp 2408WFP, which you can see at the link below.

July 31, 2009 at 3:40 pmnoticed in reviews some complained of a green bias…
they sound like a good value; how do they compare to an apple monitor in your opinion? -

July 31, 2009 at 3:58 pmGloria,
1) They are less than half the price.
2) If they had a green bias, why do so many professional users on this forum use and recommend them?
3) How many people who get perfect results from their hardware write about it vs. the people who get a lemon? There have been some issues from time to time in the past with quality control on these monitors, so if you order a bunch of these monitors from Dell a certain number of them will, most likely, have to go back for a trade-in. Make sure you get new, not refurbs if this is the case.

July 31, 2009 at 4:07 pmI’d never personally purchases an apple monitor. They are excellent monitors and I’ve never had a problem with one and they look super cool.. They are just far too expensive in my opinion.

July 31, 2009 at 5:30 pmI have two older Dell 2405s and they are great. I wouldn’t DREAM of using Apple over Dell when it comes to monitors. Especially when the new Apple monitors only have that proprietary connection, requiring you to get an adapter…more $$. Dells are cheaper, and look better.

GETTING ORGANIZED WITH FINAL CUT PRO DVD…don’t miss it.

August 1, 2009 at 11:02 amthanks, Shane.,,,because I teach BOTH Digital Imaging AND FinalCut…..color fidelity is most critical; as is simplicity/compatability in a school lab; yet, being a technical training facility, we must teach professional standards so they walk out KNOWING what they need. It can be hard. I spent 10 years in post doing national car broadcast spots; so, thank god for FinalCut, and you guys! Always a great help!

Also check out the Dell 24″ S2409W monitor. We have a couple of these on one of our FCP suites and love them. They are a fantastic price and quality wise they are very good. We also have a FCP suite with a 20″ Apple cinema display. The Apple monitors are nice, just way over priced.
Here’s Dell’s link:

August 2, 2009 at 12:08 amIs the Dell S2409W a “glossy” screen? The frame around the monitor looks glossy as well…so for utilizing this in a production environment would be (at least to me) distracting.
The HP2475W is also a decent monitor too; albeit a tad more pricey.

August 2, 2009 at 5:50 pmWe have a pair of 24″ 2409 Dells and they’re great & affordable. Yes, the frame is glossy/shiny but they don’t seem to catch much glare [I edit in a room with natural sunlight coming in].
