I think it is in the edit page..right click on a thumbnail and there is an option to rebuild all thumbnails

This happens to me as well. I think it is just an internal thumbnail issue.

As you have discovered, it doesn’t mean your media is offline.

Go into your preferences and check where your stills are being stored. Make sure you have access to them, and the drive is not read only.

Then go and rebuild all your thumbnails on your timeline.

I must be missing something.

How does taking a picture of an uncalibrated monitor with a DSLR make it a calibrated monitor?

Lets say my monitor is too cool…what is the DSLR going to do?

A couple of options come to mind.

1- lock the other tracks. Select everything, but only the unlocked tracks will move around. Assuming you are trying to move tracks?

2-right click in the left side where the patch panel is of what ever video track you want to select, and move that track down until it is the lowest video track.

Do the same for the audio track, and move it up to the top of the audio layers.

Now you can simply click and drag over those two layers to select them.

After selected, you can move the tracks back to where they belong, and they will stay selected, or leave them where they are. Depends on what you are trying to do.

Could be some sort of memory issue with Avid/your computer. Trying to do too much too fast…although I’m pretty sure batch transcodes still only do 1 clip at a time, just in succession, not multiple frames at once.

It could also be a drive issue at either end.
Perhaps the drive can’t keep up with the write or read functions of the previous clip as the next clip is starting.

Are you transcoding to the source drive?
Maybe try copying a few of your sources to a new source drive, and a transcode to a different source drive.

And if you tell each clip to transcode in the background, you can go through each folder, tell it to start transcoding, and move onto the next folder without having to wait for the first to finish. In the end it will give you the same idea as importing them to the individual folders, with the speed of transcoding. (which is usually quicker than importing)

If you do continue to edit while the transcode is going on in the background (rather than just letting the box do its thing, you may find the transcoding process goes slower.

I will usually do it this way at the end of the day, and let the bg transcode go after I’m done editing. for the day.

using the “alt drag” method, you can probably rebuild all your links in pretty quickly.

ALT drag (from the finder or explorer) a folder containing your subfolders with media into a bin and release.
This should create new ama links which your can then relink your sequences to.

Does it render out this way, or only on your computer monitor? Your settings might be dropping the resolution down within resolves display system.

It could also be a limitation of the camera. Fine lines from some lower end cameras have a habit of doing this. I had some DJI Drone footage of a bridge a year or two ago where all the footage looked great, except the fine lines of some of the support cables. They crawled all over the place. Ended up putting a bit of a softness/noise reduction filter on them to clean it up. It is the same sort of Moiré effect you get from a cheap suit on TV.

BTW…you should have kept the beard length…it looks impressive in the thumbnail… I can barely go a month or two before it gets cut 🙂

I’m assuming you didn’t keep a copy of your original – pre transcoded- ama links? They will show you the original file path. Actually, I thought that if you called up the file path column for a transcode, it would show the original file path from the ama link…maybe that was information I’ve copied and pasted into a new column at some point, but I’m sure I’ve accessed it before…hard to remember when its not your project or workflow.

I always keep the ama links somewhere in the project. That way you simply have to bring those links back online, and relink the sequence to those files in Avid.

Maybe check your attic for an old version that still has the links.

Worst cast scenario, you create new ama links to all those prores files…all of them, not just what was used. Put them into a bin or two or three if the bins are getting too large.

Then do sequence relinks to those bins. If the original links and transcodes were all done in Avid, it should be a pretty simply relink job.

It sounds like you dont really know which monitor is accurate (if any) in the first place which is going to make correct this kinda like chasing your tail.

Did you try bars or a simply black to white ramp to see how they look?
