Thanks Todd for the comments. I just tried to open the material under CS6, and still encounter the issue. I tried to ask the film scanner guy what he may have done differently with some batches, with metadata settings, but he just shrugged. The fact remains that other apps work it fine…. ?

Thanks Kevin for the ideas. Sounds like there’s an avenue, via some analysis and some renaming. I’m a novice with Resolve, so I’m digging around in the right clicks for the possibilities.

As you anticipate, the project’s original selects were strung somewhat arbitrarily and each DPX folder contains a lot of shots, un-split, camera starts to camera stops, and every folder starts over with TC 00:00:00:00

So I have to come up with matching Reel names for the ProRes. I can’t even tell if the DPX contains embedded Reel names, as I don’t yet understand how this is stored or displayed. I’ll keep mucking with it, but I do see how one changes the Reel names in FCP.

I do see the setting ‘assist Reel #s using embedded’ among other choices, but I don’t see Resolve ‘assisting’ me yet! Maybe it’s telling me there’s no embedded reel name?

Is there any particular type of EDL, format or settings appropriate for this scheme?
