The future of Apple is modal computing, nad absolutely no filesystem. It will be metadata based (just as FCPX is). THis has been Steve Jobs ultimate dream since he first designed the very first Apple computer, to create a compuetr for “the rest of us”. A powerful devioce with zero learning curve required. He has achieved it partially already with iOS, all you get is a sea of icons, which anyone from a 1 year old baby to a 99 year old granny can pick up and start using. Apps will fill the entire screen, pretty much turning your computer into whatever the function of the moment you intend to use it-a book, a piano, a gps, a notebook. Full screen. No windows. The device disappears, and the content (app) takes full center stage. And its just continuously getting more and more powerful. File system are a mess, its the worst result of Apple’s invented desk – metaphored GUI, (which MS eventually copied), and he’s been trying to remove for so long. Finally with iOS its closer than ever. With iCloud and metadata based access and manipulation by app integration, say goodbye to finder.

But this does not mean its any less powerful, in fact just the opposite. Apps will be much easier to use, and you can concentrate more on doing stuff that you need to do other than figuring out how to do it.

And that my friends is Apple’s future. Power to the people mofo!

Like everything else in life, whenever theres something new, its just a matter of learning it. Learn it enough and you could pretty much do everything you have to. These tuts surely puts the color board’s critics to shame. https://www.colorgradingcentral.com/final-cut-pro-x-color-grading-table-of-contents

I see a future, where an ipad companion app which will put FCPX’s color boards on the ipad, (ala Da Vinci Resolve control surface)and control it there while a bigger playback screen or scopes will take its place on the monitor.

Its as big and looks as it is, because as I’ve been saying, FCPX is made for touch.

Ahahaha. Everything really did. Thats how smat FCPX is.:)

But seriously though, at its current state. Everytime a weird thing happens on FCPX, usually its fixed by either a relaunch or a restart.

^^Totally agree. At the end of the day, editing is just cutting and splicing stuff together. As hard as a lot of you make it seem, that’s just what it is. And FCPX’s main tagline is to relieve us from all the repetitive tasks that we do (like organizing, and clicking and dragging stuff just to make sure clips don’t collide and sync stays where they’re suppose to be ) so that we can focus on the most important part – the craft of TELLING THE STORY. Because every single issue above are just noise, distracting us from this more important part. A cut is just a cut. A graphics artists job is much more taxing/demanding. An animator, even more! This is just another cutting software after all, and its the first one that actually tried to make it easier, by “cutting” (pun intended) all the unnecessary noise of editing.

Hmm..as much as I observe. Your issues with FCPX are purely personal fetishes/preferrences. It is irrelevant to “how an editing suite should function in today’s world” idea, rather its all just nitpicking.

[Chris Kenny] ” the magnetic timeline’s ripple-by-default behavior is going to feel about a zillion times more natural than potential alternatives with a touch interface?”

This is exactly what I thought when I saw FCPX’s new look. It closely follows Apples Human Interface Guidelines of using physical metaphors to make the design more engaging and using those metaphors as functionality. Using touch, It will just feel “natural”, taking us back to the old days when film was cut using, you know, your hands. What can you say now purists?!

GoPro has a very good quality already, rumored iPhone 4S/5 is said to have the camera as one of its major selling point. I can imagine placing 30/60p at 1080p in there because the A5 dual core proc + its GPU and iOS grand central dispatch can already handle 1080p edit. That will be a nice tool for journalists indeed. And with the amzing libraryof apps to enhace that video quality…the future is here.
