Don’t know if this will help at all, but you can “reset” the defaults by holding CTL+SHIFT while opening Vegas. You will lose anything you customized, but perhaps it will get past the crashing???

On the PC side, I use PGCedit. Double click the Menu/Title, and change the AR properties…

I am away from my editing machine, but I don’t think it’s in the Capture module — it’s in an Import option (I don’t recall the exact name of it). Go to File, then look for another option to add assets — you should see a “from-dvd” option embeded in one of the other File items…

You can set the “Lock Aspect Ratio” so when you drag a corner to resize, the AR remains constant.

I think you want to look up “Track Motion” in the help files. That should give you the effect you are looking for…

Actually, the cheap dvd players tend to be more friendly to the home made stuff, so getting those probably won’t help much…

You might want to get some 4-5 year old dvd players (not sure where to get them though…)

There are utilities to “verify” your burned DVD — I would go to videohelp.com to see if you can find one in their tools section.

Other than that — perhaps adhering to some generic guidelines will help.

Off the top of my head…

-keep video+audio bitrate <= ~7.5mbps -keep the total size <= ~4gb (on dvd5) -don't use sticky labels on your dvd's -keep burner firmware up-to-date (follow instructions carefully when updating firmware) -keep burning software up-to-date -don't always burn at the max speed of your burner/media combo (I've had great success burning at 4x) -probably some other things that I can't remember at the moment... This is a pretty good deal. I was at Costco last week, and they currently have 100 TDK White matte printable DVD’s (DVD+R 8x) for $22.00 out the door (instant rebate applies at the register — it’s 42 – 20 instant rebate).

The Verbatims are probably better quality, I haven’t opened the TDK’s yet to find out the actual manufacturer. But I’ve got a small run coming up for about 70 dvd’s that will only need about 1.5gb, so I thought these would be fine…

Not sure about the caption versioning, but DVD LabPro has a nice builtin function to add a “Quiz” to your DVD. Kind of like a multiple choice series of questions, and it can be programmed to display a message based on a range of correct answers.

DLP also gives you the ability to fully customize your menus and navigation — it’s got alot of advanced features.

No builtin encoder (so it expects usable streams), and the builtin burning module is pretty basic — but they offer both those options at a nice “plugin” price…
