Maybe I am doing something wrong. I set in settings sequence to 4 tracks.
    track 1-2 dual mono
    track 3-4 dual stereo
    downmix at 0 on both
I then get the warning about mixing down stereo I tried it checked and unchecked. It mentions a toggle in mixer which I can not find?
    Then over to the mixer
Pans are set to center and unavailable when I set 1-2 to dual mono.
When both are set to dual stereo pans are unlocked and set hard left and right.
Any ideas? Thanks again for your time

Great! So I will set those in the mixer? I tried these settings in the mixer. I set channel 1-2 to dual mono. 3-4 to sterio. When I try to set the pan it lockes them center and does not give me access. Setting both to sterio sets pans hard left and hard right. How do I set 1-2?

Oops, sorry about thta. I was resonding to this post from Paul:

    Hi
That’s controlled by a check button on FCP’s Audio Mixer window.
Uncheck the Stereo Downmix button, and the four audio tracks will be treated separately – you can Export a 4 Channel movie, but you won’t hear what’s on 3 & 4 if you play your timeline without a 4 channel sound system.

I am worried because I beleieve they said they wanted sterio pairs on 1-2 (dialog) and 3-4 (music and effects).

Sorry for the confusion. The copy I made looked beautiful, thanks David. I just still have to get those separate audio tracks.

They will be exporting to a digibeta tape. I did export as per Davids instructions. I did open up the audio and add chenels 3-4 but was I supposed to do something else? Like tell them what streams? Great copy but, I got everything on the track 1-2. Nothing on track 3-4 that I can see. Their instructions for dubbing in foreign voices is dialog on track 1-2. Music and effects on 3-4. So if I do use 4 tracks and only 2 record will I still get all of the sound? The main thing they need to do id be able to lift off the dialog track separately and keep everything else. Thanks for all the input. Can I get a step by step? Thanks again

Hi Tom, found it! But, when I chose 4 tracks it gave a warning that said this device does not support this many tracks? I had to let it mix down the sterio pairs? Correct?

Thanks Tom! I am sure it is in all of those. But, they do make it hard to find! I searched every combination and found nothing. 2 dubbing houses and Technicolor couldn’t tell me how! Anyway, thanks so much. Can you be just a bit more specific? Where do I find the sequence settings and the header? I know, I sound dumb but I just am not used to quicktime. I use it once every year. When we get a movie ready. thanks again

Hi David, again I hate to sound likie a novice. You would think I would be pretty good by now. But what codes are you refering too? Also, did you see my last questions about separate M & E tracks? I finally stopped the version I was trying to do the other way. It has ran for 4 days and the render files were massive (469 GB)? Youe answers are greatly appreciated and I will try the method you mention next. If you tell me this will work for the separate M & E. Is there any setting I need to get this to work with separte tracks?

Thnks David, this has now been running for 3 days and now is saying the disk is full! 500 GB of render files! Will the export as you said be OK for the dub? They need separate Music and Effects (M&E) tracks.

Hi David, thanks for the response. I only used those settings because I was going by what an article said to use. I, like so many others, searched the question “How do I export a high quality movie” The answer came up from DVcreators.net That is the only reason. Is there a better step by step that you can point me to? I have to do this 3 more times! Thanks again for any info

Sorry, even though I am a regular editor I am still a novice! I used these settings PNG, Millions of colors, Linear PCM, Sterio R L, Render BEST, Sample size 16
Does this help? Thanks guys, you are the best in the world.
