January 23, 2006 at 1:20 am in reply to: DLT 4000 not foundSomething that comes to mind, Go to control panel – computer management – services – Look at the list and see if the option for removable media might be in manual or disabled. I kind of rember having similir issue with win2k but not XP. The option is definately there though. There might be some other service there also that might be stopping media recognition.

January 22, 2006 at 11:16 pm in reply to: 64 bit native[Steven L. Gotz] ”
When they release Vista, then there will be a few of us who move to it and Adobe will have a few beta testers available. Until then, how do you propose Adobe fully test the Video software? With beta Microsoft software as a base? That could change any moment? Too expensive is my guess.”
I’ve been running XP64 for a year and half now. Including PPro 1.5, granted 32bit emulation. Everything I’ve thrown at it with the exceptions of drivers currently runs flawlessly, on Opteron, and Dual Core systems. Now most drivers for onboard device support are available.(Ex audio, VGA, SCSI, SATA, etc). Granted MS has not launched Vista, but PPro should be going into beta by now. I do not want to see the lag behind FCP, and the continuous upgrade paths that don’t really address this issue.
In three years SD won’t be an option, we are all going to need HD real time, not HDV.Not to ruffle any feathers, but how is it that Apple pulls it off, (for a year and half now) and currently with Intel in their pocket. The Port process is not that tough. 64 bit on the MAC happened with the roll out of G5s in kind of the blink of an eye. Even on slower G5 cpu’s FCP is extremly responsive. If I have to go to a MAC facility for an online because my facility can’t crank out the goods, I am in serious trouble.

January 22, 2006 at 6:21 pm in reply to: Is Mixer fixed in 2?OK I stand corrected. I did not mean to slight PPro in favor of 6.5 for all aspects of audio editing. In 6.5 it was very easy to rubberband audio with a click of the mouse when that method of editing was desired. Now you have to choose track or clip, then set the drag bar to the exact spot you want to insert a keyframe, and move the drag bar or play down the clip to the next insert point again and again every time for such a simple function. In 6.5 to remove a pop required three clicks in 1F view and you could pull down the track to a level that made it blend into the background, also not discernable. Took a second to perform. In 6.5 I could also move or copy this clip anywhere I wanted to place it and those attribute changes would follow.
Also I still do not like the mixer panel, as its ability to anticipate a mix change in realtime does not perform as expected. Granted that may depend on the hardware being used (Matrox, BM, etc), but even in stand alone app it just feels delayed.
Finally ,I would like to be able to select any track, edit in Audition, and update Ppro upon exit. Just as Encore does with PS. Maybe Bridge will do that I have yet to see as I do not have 2.0 yet.
Tks for the reply Tim, and I agree it depends on methodologies. Usually I am the last person to criticise an app until I am totaly familiar with it. I need to give PPro 2.0 a try. Currently we have 3 editors. Two with 1.5 and one with 6.5 I change back and forth, and maybe because I grew up with Premiere from 1.0 on it still feels very comfortable.

January 22, 2006 at 2:57 pm in reply to: Is Mixer fixed in 2?I agree… the mixer in PPro is a very weak link, and if is not fixed yet I am sadly dissappointed. Even if it was easier to keyframe a clip I would be happy. Creating new timelines for audio fixes is not a good solution. For example.. Audio pops are a pain to clean up in PPro because of this. Quite honestly 6.5 is better for audio with the exception you cannot expand view for track detail. Maybe if edit original brings clip audio into Audition that is a work around. Does it?

No it is not just about the 1gb issue. It is about some settop players will not see any data written to
the outer edge of disc, and give a false disc error upon insertion. It occurs with many older players. Not so much a problem with newer ones. The leadout is still not far enough out to be seen. I would like to see other posts about this, but it seems people disregard it, and Adobe has not had much to say about it.Regards

January 21, 2006 at 6:17 pm in reply to: PC Setup Tyan Mobo.Matt:
Thanks for the info. The A8N-E was posted on the BM site as a compatible MB. Very confusing. There is nothing installed in either of the 1x slots so it seems that 16x for ATI should leave 4x left over for the MBe in the 4x slot. I have queried Asus about this, but so far have not heard back. The SLI boards seem to be locked into support for dual graphic board application, and not designed for other peripherials, that is why I chose the A8N-E. Looking at white sheet from Microsoft, it appears that the OS is very particular about the way addressing is performed for the PCIe bus. Also specifically states that the calls are performed in BIOS. This still seems like an Asus issue that could be addressed, but probably won’t be. I plan to see if I can get the MBe to work today using an older PCI graphics card and at least see if I have a working MBe or not. I will let you know. Also if you see a specific Motherboard that for sure will work with the AMD dual core, let me know. The A8N-E with this CPU seems to perform extremely well when compared to Opteron and Xeon solutions, but if the PCIe doesn’t work then time to move on.

January 21, 2006 at 4:18 am in reply to: compatibility issueCould it be that your disc is a short duration burn? Some DVD setops will not seek in to the disk and play if there is no data written close to the outer circumfrence of the disk. I wish there were an easy way in encore to fill the disk for short duration projects. I get around this by adding black orphaned timeline to the project. Not supported but works. The Glass mastering process can put the data anywhere in the Photo Mask so it is not a problem for pressed disks.

January 21, 2006 at 2:56 am in reply to: PC Setup Tyan Mobo. Thanks Matt
I did send my msinfo32 file to support. I am running an Asus A8N-E with Dual Core 4800 CPU. ATI X600 PCIe graphics card. No other hardware other than USB SATA and IDE resources are being used in BIOS. I also tried this setup in an additional motherboard. Also Asus. A8N-SLI. Configured same way with both native BIOS, and updated to latest. Neither MB works with Multibridge extreme. I do suspect that BIOS not quite right with either of these motherboards. From what I can find out PCIe is not natively supported by Win XP, and is supported through BIOS calls only. Additionally I am plugged into the 4xPCIe slot so that is not the issue. What makes me wonder about the BM drivers, is that the diskspeed test does not work, but the I/O functions work, and all configurations can be set. It is possible I have a bad Multibridge however I am not ready to send it back RMA until I am sure it is bad. I will have some time this weekend to further pursue what might be going on. -

January 20, 2006 at 12:50 am in reply to: PC Setup Tyan Mobo.I think maybe BM has a problem with PCIe drivers. I have exactly the same problem with a Multibridge PCIe Extreme. I can install everything ok all interfaces work with the driver, but when I capture in Premiere 1.5 I can only scrub the timeline. I am not able to play. It just sits there. Also
I can not run Disk Speed utility. Have installed these drivers with two motherboards one of which is certified to run with Multibridge Extreme.Maybe we will here something soon.
