January 24, 2009 at 5:25 am in reply to: really cheap express card reader that works…Thanks Baz and Michael. If cheap works great.
I am just beginning to experiment with MxR. Have Dalkin Efilm34, but the SDHCs do not insert far enough into the adapter to allow closing compartment lid on Ex3. Dalkin has evidentally changed config.as they were supposed to work even in EX1 (the sdhc was nearly flush with the adapter end. Which Kensington MxR are you using
But my bigger concern is when using SDHC have you guys ran into any problem recording accross slots? or writing back via usb with any accross slot data integrity? Like for long format recording ex. 1080i 59.94 which is the way we will be using them?
Also I have tried with Sandisk Ultra II and no luck formatting 4 gb SDHC. It would not seem illogical that less than 8 gb would be a problem. So maybe the Dalkin.
I have spent hours researching this subject, and it seems there is much mis info about SDHC.

January 20, 2009 at 4:57 am in reply to: Multibridge Extreme PCIe problemLog on as Administrator go to HD>System>Library>Core Services and you should be able to open the Expansion Slot Utility. Setup slot 4 for 4 lane, and everything should work. You might need a cold reboot after change before it will initialize.
One caveat here would be if you have a couple of 16 lane PCIe graphics cards installed in your workstation that would be hogging all express lane resources. If so the Multibridge will never work in that config. -

December 25, 2008 at 1:34 am in reply to: DVW-M2000P digital betacam error 03Error 03 is tape slack on that machine. Usually means that it needs maintenance. That is why a reboot fixes problem. A reboot retakes up tension. I doubt it has anything to do with the Multibridge, but it could be related to the input reference, if reference is so far off. Try setting the machine to lock on video input, not external reference. You can specify input as sdi, etc. You should be using a sync gen in that system anyways, so I would suggest getting one.

December 3, 2008 at 5:57 am in reply to: decklink SP and compatible motherboardMike – I know nothing about the Maximus Extreme, so can’t add much there.
[Aristides Tiropolis] “Bu the way the X58 chipset on desktop mainboards looks interesting, allowing more memory and pcie cards…
Take a look at this one for instance:”Yeah I saw the X58 Intel is eliminating the FSB. I hope they do a better job than AMD when they introduced their firsts. I have a whole very large cupboard full of that bunk. Remember Hypertransport?(Similar marketing hype) Not to say they didn’t get it right.

December 3, 2008 at 5:34 am in reply to: bmhd extrem on xw4600I have not used the XW4600 with BM, but as I remember slots 2 and 4 should work. (2 for grafix 4 for BM) Other thoughts would be latest chipset driver for X38 chipset. This chipset does have problems with dual Nvidia SLI configs, but I don’t think it should affect your config.
Also you might completely re-init BIOS with defaults, and both cards installed.
If your comfortable with driver installs etc., HP tech support might help with latest Vista drivers (though I wouldn’t count on it). Also latest drivers for the XW and BM. I am sure you probably have done some of this, so just adding food for thought.
Other than that I no know.

November 30, 2008 at 12:57 am in reply to: decklink SP and compatible motherboard[Keith Peacock] “I have no experiance with the blackmagic products and have read both good and bad about them.
What has your experience been with them?”My experience thus far with BM has been excellent. I have only built with the Multibridge Extremes, and the HD dual link cards from BM on Macs and PCs though, so can’t speak to their other offerings. If you build it on a clean system with good hardware choices they perform well. If not you are on your own. I have had a couple of fan issues with the MBE systems built, but not a biggie. In terms of performance and stability they are right up there. Like anything keep em ventilated and cool.

November 29, 2008 at 7:18 pm in reply to: decklink SP and compatible motherboardI have not used it but have built many systems around Tyan boards.
It looks to be a good choice however, just make sure you look closely at Pwr supply, Ram, Chassis mounts, etc. before you buy. Most likely you are looking at a totally new system, and not a retro of an existing platform. Also it is a very expensive solution for beta sp editing, You might want to consider an Asus P5NT WS. Has many of same features, but much lower cost. I was surprised by the performance of this and some very expensive alternatives. Especially with a fast quad core cpu. It compares favorably with the Tyan Thunder running fastest dual core opterons, even 10bit SD uncompressed, and for most HD edits. Of course proper raid config is equally important consideration.
Also the Xeons as Apple is aware of are workhorse choice’s, and if you really need them, go for it.

November 8, 2008 at 2:44 pm in reply to: problem winxp/6.8 driversNot sure if same as you, but for what its worth, the problem was exhibited by both source and program monitors being corrupt(loss of horizontal sync). Was resolved by installing new graphic drivers for an ATI HD2600 graphic card.
