It sounds like you are seeing a slowdown in the frame rate of the preview.

On a reasonably fast computer, a simple dissolve shouldn’t really slow things down too much.

You can either lower your preview resolution with the dropdown menu on the preview window, or select the area over the transition and hit Ctrl/B to do a RAM render to get better preview results.

I’m not so sure about that. The 64 bit machines render a LOT faster than their 32 bit equivalents.

You can save the project file as often as you like. Go to File> Save As and give it a name. It will be saved as a .veg file. It’s a good idea to save as a different name (xxx.01.veg, xxx.02.veg) every once in a while, and it dosen’t hurt to save them in more than one place, especially on different hard drives.

As long as you have the .veg file, you have all the information needed to recreate the project.

Try the TV Simulator FX in Vegas. 8 variables including Vertical Sync and Static.

You can stretch or compress audio by Ctrl/Dragging the edge (the same as video), but you cannot apply Velocity Envelopes as with the video.

Let me restate Edward’s question because they both come with Vegas:
Is the capture you are using opening as a tab in the Vegas interface (HDV) or is it opening in a separate window (DV)?

Assuming that you make no change to the footage and using the NTSC or PAL DV template, the avi rendered should be exactly the same as the source avi. Even with filters except blur, etc., you should see no difference in sharpness.

If you are going to DVD, then just render straight to Mpeg2.
