[Steve Connor] iOS is a great foundation for a future OS. Like some others here I’m not subscribing to the whole “sky is falling” idea, I’m excited about the future direction companies like Apple take.

Until you realize just how unsuitable iOS is for a professional work environment.

[Craig Seeman] Put your MacPro on it’s side. Get rid of the handles and legs. Then cut the height down since it’ll only have two PCIe slots (one populated with GPU). You’re losing the optical drive as well as all the internal hard drive expansion. They’ll have to deal with air flow/cooling but I think it’s possible if not likely for Apple to head in this direction.

It’s also possible that Apple will leave traditional computing entirely and move fully into the iOS ecosystem.

[Bill Davis] X is like the iPad. It’s a great solution for some things. Not for everything. And it, or the similar products it is likely to spawn from other companies in the coming years, will solve real problems for real users, if not everything for everyone who needs to create content.

    I agree.

But in the end, you need the iPad, you need the expensive adjustable bed with integrated panic buttons and “patient out of the bed” alarm, and, most of all, you need smart people like whoever figured out the white board thing.

    I don’t need the iPad.

[Walter Soyka]You are pushing for HD editorial on an iPad — but HD editorial has been doable on a workstation for a decade. How does getting the last decade’s deliverable from a smaller device make you a visionary?

I bet he won’t ever edit on an iPad (in its current and foreseeable incarnations), other than playing around with it for a few minutes.

What if I want the workstation without having to invest in rack space and have 2-3 external peripherals scattered about on my desktop?

I thought we were moving away from a “facility” and to some apartment with a MacBook Pro.

Great! So the plan is simple:

Step 1: Use FCPX to make money
Step 2: Use that money to advertise your online video material
    Step 3: ????
    Step 4: Profit!!!

[Bill Davis]In the new connected micro-economic world where distribution costs are marginalized via this search driven world of easy access content pipes directly to individuals devices, how many eyeballs do you REALLY have to attract to make something you put on the net a sustainable economic model to drive modest but decent personal success?

But then you hit the wall of there being so many projects clamoring for attention that anything you do has a real problem with being lost in the chorus. How do you make it so that you’re not one of thousands of similar projects all vying for attention?

[Bill Davis]At one level, suddenly 30 Rock and “keyboard cat” have precisely the same level of public accessibility via search. That’s NEVER been possible before in human history.

How do you monetize “keyboard cat” vs “30 Rock”?

[Jeremy Garchow] You will need it. And a lot of planning. I stand by my comment.

I have been doing video production on a Windows desktop for a long time, and have only recently gotten a Mac. Use both, and I don’t need luck and lots of planning when I go back to the Windows box.

So, in my experience, your comment is flat out incorrect.
