Dave,
What article are you talking about? Jeremy made reference to a link for Apple on Ram and it says nothing about using 6GB. Just the matched pairs. Which is why I only have 2GB in my MacBook Pro 17″ I bought last January instead of the 3GB max.
Possibly you are referring to some article not in this thread or I am missing somehow? What is the reason why someone would make a 4 GB leap in performance sweet spot over 2 GB as an addition? 6 GB are matched pairs. If it is the fact because there are four cores, then why would 2GB be considered as a sweet spot?

I already knew knew about matched pairs. I am just wondering if 6GB is not that useful over 4GB in the system I mentioned. I have seen posts/articles in the past that said something about 4 being the sweet spot. I was wondering if that might still be true.

it’s also possible that no one here really knows for sure if Motu has acquired some of the best video engineers in the world to develop their new product. I would keep an open mind and see for myself instead of always following a crowd.

I would leave the four drive raid as is and add another 250 GB drive as the boot drive. Do a clone to a FW drive of what is installed as OS and apps on the raid, then apply the clone to the new fifth drive, Delete what is on the raid after you are sure the fifth drive has it all and it boots. You can mount the fifth drive in the extra DVD position (unless you have two DVD installed).

“Io HD offers multiple outputs that are all hot at the same time. In other words, you can output SDI, HD-SDI, Component and S-Video all at the same time.”
Yes, if you have all those decks and monitors and need everything at the same time. I still want to get away from all those tapes, but I also realize there are some people out there that will have those needs and want to provide those services.

I did not say the AJA was limited. I said FW800 has limits and thus the AJA would have also those those limits.

let’s not forget to say that the AJA io HD only connects to your Mac thru FW800 with it’s limits.

Zrennk,
I have to disagree with Gary A. In 1988 I had a “what if I need four audio tracks in BetaSP?”. I popped $30k for a BetaSP recorder instead of $15k for the same machine with two audio tracks. Fifteen years later I never once used the four tracks, just two. I always wished I had the extra $15k I spent.
The AJA is approx. $3500 and the Matrox is approx. $1k. What if a year from now there are new or better products (typically) at lower prices than the AJA? You can use the $2500 you saved today to get what you need a year later. If you even need it then. Or borrow or rent a unit for the few times it is needed. What if there are no tapes in your business a year from now, which many of us are trying to do today?

BTW, this was a folder full of source files, fcp project files and graphics of a project from a previous editor that finished the project. They now wanted to make a couple of changes and redo the DVD. I am now told there are no other copies backed up. I have the IT guys trying to help. I gotta believe there is something on the server since everyone has public and private folders. I am also trying some Recover apps like Data Rescue II and File Salvage.
