Brian,IMHO it is so confusing right now, this is all crazy. I am re-writing stuff as it is being released due to the speed of changes here – take a breath, things will get better, but its not going to happen in a day or a week.
Right now, everything is working towards the Lion release (next week?)
No “true” Pro is going to be jumping to new versions of their base toolset until it has been tested and tried extensively. FCP X is what 3 weeks old?
IF we want to talk in FCS 3 terms, that shipping period would mean that the first boxes would just starting to arrive at Apple dealers in small town USA. The internet has not only accelerated the delivery time but the angst and fear surronding everything that people do not know.
The world has not ended. The sun is shining (were I am at). If it does not work out your way, thats life, there are a couple of other viable solutions to work with if FCP X is not going to work for you.

NO. You cannot run the IoHD from within any of the Adobe apps.
The IoHD is a ProRes appliance designed for use with FCP, it natively wants to work with ProRes, and ProRes is NOT native to the Adobe suite of apps.
I was saying that you can use your IoHD to capture content and move it into PPro or render out a file and play it back outside of the adobe apps.

ProRes is not native to premier, and the cards are designed to work within application as it is designed, there is no guarantee that ProRes would be available to every Abobe users.
now you can use the VTRx application to ingest as ProRes on a system that has ProRes installed and then move the files into PPro.

It is my understanding No.
You would be able to use AJA’s VTR exchange to record into or playback from the IoHD. The IoHD is ProRes based system designed to work specifically with earlier versions of FCP and those features are not available within PPro.

Adobe does not include ProRes as that is only installed if you are working with Apples FCP, ProRes is not part of the base install of QT or the Adobe Premium package.
you can’t have a preset for something that the machine cannot process.

Ok..
There is No 5.1 Mux possible on HDSR media, it is not supported. Your audio would be discrete channels on the tape.
You will need change your capture settings to record the addtional audio tracks and this is best done via Aja’s VTR exchange App, then import the file in to FCP.
If you are talking about a muxed/ dolby signal on the tape, no you will not be able to directly record and yes you would need a decoder for the audio

Great question Michael.
Chances are you will be able to assign them in the recorder- cantar and sounddevices recorders both allow users to record and ID clip,take and track info that can be extracted and used (highend data management tools like the Fotokem’s NextLab do this on ingest)
So there is no reason that audio sync, tracks and file naming cannot come from the audio metadata that is already being created.

Helmut.
That would depend on the P2 recording. I was able to open a 4 yr old rchived DVCPROHD P2 media project using P2CMS to handle the file package, then FCPX allowed me to import the HVX200 Content without issue, I was not using most of those metadata markers in my content so all I got was base data of Name, Location,TC, clip info and spanning info.
I would think that Apple is dedicated to seeing and handling all kinds of Metadata, right now some of the tools that support the AVC codecs is still being dealt with, much like the same issue there is with Sony’s EX and XD media formats, you can use them, but you still need an external application to be able to ingest the materials.
