Thanks for your reply. I have an SD deck but no other Final Cut system. I’m trying to avoid going back out to tape because I hear Final Cut messes with the gamma when you print to tape.

Good point. I’ll be playing the HDCam from a JH3 player that will play out 23.98.

But I still am perplexed. When I choose the Easy Setup for 1080/23.98 DVCPro HD, it gives me a Sequence Preset of 1080/23.98 DVCPro HD. This is good. But it gives me a Capture Preset of 1080i 23.98 DVCPro HD. Why can’t I capture at 1080p 23.98? I’d rather capture progressive than interlaced, or does it matter? This 1080i 23.98 preset bewilders me.
    Thanks – Fred

  • Thanks, Peter, and thanks to everyone who helped with this. It worked!

  • Thanks. That’s the answer! But I guess I have to paste into each successive clip individually? It won’t let me paste into a selected group of clips. I’m using Option-V to paste. Anyway it’s only about 60 clips.

  • Yes, I do too, but then is there any way to apply the scaling etc to all the clips in each sequence without using nests? It would be really tedious to scale all 60 clips in each sequence one by one. This is a newbie question; I’m sure there must be an easy way to do this.
    Thanks

Walter: Thanks for replying. I’ve read your threads on DF and NDF timecode and admire them greatly. These DVCPro HD tapes are HDSDI dubs from D5 masters that inadvertently were striped DF.

I’ve made some progress on this issue. The DVCPro selects tape I’m having the problem with has drop-frame (DF) timecode. I’ve tried capturing from other tapes with nondrop-frame (NDF) tc, and no extra frames are added. So I assume this the culprit. I’ve discovered that Apple tells you not to use DF with DVCPro HD. I wish I’d known that earlier. Anyway, someone suggested I try capturing through RS-422 as opposed to FireWire. I’ve ordered an adapter and will try that in the next day or so.
