I own a 7D, and Vegas Studio Platinum HD 10.0.
Buying Cineform Neoscene saved my life 🙂 Before: crashes all time. After : no crashes any more (well, except for DivX/Xvid rendering. But this is another story).John, I am also surprised that you say the Cineform codec is bundled with Vegas. In my Studio Platinum version at least (the cheap version, I agree), I don’t remember I had any Cineform codec until I bought the Neoscene. But this might be because it is not the Pro version of Vegas. Or just because In don’t remember well enough.
Rob, in the event you would have to buy Cineform, as you may have seen, it can be freely evaluated for 7 days.

September 18, 2010 at 6:22 am in reply to: Having problems when rendering in Sony VegasSorry that it did not work for you. Me too, am getting crazy about rendering to some formats (DivX and Xvid in my case). It does work for some lucky others on this forum, the Sony support says it is not supported, and in my case it always fail 🙁
Anyway, do you have at least one output format for which you can render successfully? (if not, the problem might come from the format of your input AVI files… Even if I know it has worked in the past).

September 15, 2010 at 9:32 pm in reply to: Having problems when rendering in Sony VegasIn the Options/Preferences/Video, did you try to set the max RAM for preview to 0, and max threads to 1? (you will find detailed instructions in this forum if you look for the ‘memory error’ keywords). It is also explained on the sony support forum or FAQs.
I am not a Vegas Pro user (only Studio), but I think many Pro users have fixed a similar problem this way.
Hope it helps,

Hi, I have just installed the driver, and it seems to work fine:
– It appears and I can select it in the preferences
– I did a 30 second recording and even at the end there is no lag
– However, I cannot right now make a test with a video played while recording, which is the context in which I had the problem before. Maybe playing the video back loads the CPU in such a way that the sound gets lagged. So I cannot be certain that the problem is fixed right now, but it is in very good shape though.I should be able to make the final test tomorrow or the day after, I will let you know.
Thanks very much once more John !!

Sorry, me again. I have done something I should have done before writing the last 2 posts: looking for what ASIO is.
ASIO actually stands for Audio Stream Input/Output, and according to what I read, manages latency in a much more efficient way than the DirectAudio API does under Windows. I have found a free ASIO Driver, Asio4all (https://www.asio4all.com/). It seems to be the most commonly used, after the “KX” drivers, which only work for Sound Blaster cards.
It looks like I just have install it, and any ASIO-enabled application (including Vegas?) will use it to drive the audio peripherals like mikes and speakers.
I will install and test asap and will let you know what it gives – unless somebody else gives his feedback before here.

Forgot one point. If the h4n does not make it, what would you recommend ? — knowing I am “on a budget”, as I believe you say in English.
Thanks again,

Hi John,
Thanks for your answer. I don’t know what is ASIO. I would guess Asynchronous S?? Input/Output.
And I don’t know how to know if I have ASIO or not. I had a look at the device manager of my PC, in the Audio, Video, Game controllers folder, but found nothing like ASIO.
My PC is a DELL Latitude E6400 laptop, and I am using the default sound card with the embedded microphone.
Later on, I plan to buy the Zoom H4n (to record audio along with my Canon EOS 7D). I have read it can also be used as a USB microphone. Do you think it would solve my latence problem described in this discussion?
Thanks,
Frédéric—

Hi,
Thanks for your answer and for pointing this out.

Recorded WAV files: 22050 Hz, 16 bit, Stereo.
Rendering: 128 Kbps, 22050 Hz, 16bit, Stereo, AAC
Would you have any idea to fix my problem?
Thanks in advance,

Thanks John for the clarification, I see the difference now.
As a result, developing a velocity envelope plug-in (as I was planning to do ) with the current SDK is not feasible, but it might be doable with OFX. Except that Movie Studio does not support OFX, so it won’t be possible. and such envelopes already exist in the Pro version…
BTW, as OFX is not supported by Movie Studio, it means that newly developed OFX plug-ins won’t work in Movie Studio.
