Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Activating the basic text tool from keyboard?

I just set up a Keyboard Command to do exactly that.

You need to access the Customise Keyboard function and then navigate to the COMMAND called Insert.GenratedMedia.TextMedia and apply your own CTRL+ command – I just used Ctrl+I,I :

Options | Customize Keyboard | Global | and in “Show Commands containing” – I used INSERT and then scrolled down to: Insert.GenratedMedia.TextMedia : and then punched in my own Keyboard Command: Ctrl+I,I – you can choose what you want, but you have to start with the Ctrl key.

Once done, and back at the Selected Track and with the Cursor at the place wanting to have the Text, punch in:-

Ctrl+I+I (leaving out the PLUS signs!!) or just hit YOUR combination and I get the Standard Sony Text Menu ready and waiting to be edited at the point where the Cursor is placed! – Done!

    Grazie

But but but . . and reading between your lines, maybe if I knew exactly what it is you are wanting to do there may actually be a better way of introducing Text into VEgas. Maybe?

Do you know a way to activate the basic text tool (in generated media) without the mouse? I would like to be able to create a new text at the current cursor position, and directly edit the text contents without having to use the mouse.

Graham has it correct except that the command you are looking for is Insert.TextMedia but other than that it works fine.

Also, once a text has been created, I would like be able to change the text with a minimum number of clics (so far, I have to right clic to get the menu, then clic to choose “Edit generated media”, then clic on the text to change it, which means 3 clics).

You only need one click. Just click the green Generated Media icon in the top right of the Text Event to open the generated media window again.

Thanks again to you for your help.
So, I have just tried to do what you recommend. BUT:

    1) for the “customize keyboard” stuff, I am afraid it is only available in the Pro version, isn’t it ? In my Studio Platinum HD version, in the Options menu, I only have “Customize Toolbar”, and no “Customize Keyboard” item. The help does not mention it either.

    2) Then, to edit an existing text media, if I clic the small Icon as you say John, I actually get the media property dialog activated, but the keyboard focus is not in the text field it self. So I have to do one more clic to have the caret blinking in the text box. And the TAB key does not help. Would it mean that the Pro versions behave more efficiently? Or did you try on Studio Platinum HD 10 like me, and I would have missed something?
Anyway, thanks to you I saved on clic, moving from 3 clics to 2 clics only. But if I could save one more, I would be even happier 🙂

    Thanks again,
    Frederic

Yea, it’s only in Pro. If posters don’t explicitly say they are using Movie Studio, I always assume they are using Vegas Pro (sorry).
