The cameras have genlock and are in phase. no roll or shift occurs.

The switcher is SDI and we are feeding component from the CCUs to a “module” card in the Ecolab. I don’t know if there is anything else in the path. (DA perhaps?)

I assume that all of the monitoring is being done using the composite out. I’m not sure of the exact path here either but there is a router that feeds the scopes.

Until Wednesday when he opened up the CCUs and made some adjustments to the controls on the card, the color bars did not match. I am told they match now. I have not seen it for myself yet, but lets hope they do.

    Thanks

Thanks for your insight. I wish I could answer these questions, but I’ve never seen the flow chart for the room. You have, however, armed me with some key info.

The engineer has now opened up the CCUs and made some adjustments to the output from the controls on the internal board.
He claims that the cameras match…more testing to be done today, so we’ll see.

    Thanks to all

Could this be the case if we can see the changes on the scopes?

It could be a deck compatability issue. Our entire group was using the 250s and had simalar unexplained audio issues, deck control inconsistancies and timecode errors. We’ve switched to the Panasonic AJ-SD93s and most of our problems went away.

In fact, I believe the 250 is not on the approved device list (the 255 is)

If we adjust set-up we run the risk of having the backdrops look different, right? the flats behind the talent are lit with purple gelled kickers, so if we add red in setup the color would probably look different than in the other cameras. This being the case, I think gel is the best way to go. Do you have any suggestions about particular color, manufacturer, etc.?

Thanks, I had no intention of taking the gigs without the training, it was all or nothing.

In short, I decided to go for it. Since they have a regular engineer, I may get screwed if these two dates are the only 2 they ever offer me, but that remains to be seen.

    Thanks to all who replied.

thanks to all of you for your responses.

I am a seasoned video pro with a great deal of audio production experience. I am very concerned about setting a precedent by giving my time for free. I don’t think this is an audition, because I get the impression they’d like me to observe, not actaully train by doing.

Funny you should say that. We are a College cable station with 6 staff Producers/you-name-it-we-do-it-techs. We actually do have student interns transcribing our tapes, but we are thinking that if we could get a voice recognition program, they will only have to QC it’s output. Thus saving time.
