Thanks for the reply.

I did go to 7.0.4 with the patch, but it was a bit complicated before that because I was on 7.0.0 and did three seperate insalls to get to 7.0.4 at least one of which was a full install (as it wouldn’t accept a patch straight to 7.0.3).

I didn’t guess that there was a diffence between the patch and the full install, I will unistall and start again, this sounds like the fix.

Thaks for your suggestions.

1. No green dots (als, if I highlight the whole sequence select render in/out it reports no effects to render – normally this would mean I can make a QT ref without rendering).

2. All media and sequences are matched to DxN120 as far as I can tell.

3. Render setting are set to ‘same as source’ – either way, this box doesn’t seem to affect behaviour.

Yes, this always worked fine till the last few weeks and now every job takes me ages to get my proofs out (which I have to do a few times a day).

Unfortuanately SaS QuickTimes are just as slow to export. It’s not that I can’t get stuff off the machine, it is just very slow (and formerly) unnecessary.

Currently the fastest workfow is to video mixdown every version of the sequences I need to export. It works but is just wasting time.

But no go there either.

1.Frame rates are not changed – just using a new un-touched clip in a new job with my standard settings has the same effect.
2. Every clip and effect in a timeline now needs rendering
2. Old jobs which previously didn’t need rendering now do.

No, nothing like that. Never really used it.

If I open a new sequence, place a fresh new DNxHD clip on it, check it doesn’t need a render, then go to make a Quicktime reference, then I have to render one effect before the QT ref is made. For a rel timeline this is taking ages.

Going back into old jobs is now the sam, but it wasn’t when I was working on them. Sequences that used to export instantly now need long renders.

Thank you for that. I will now take another new step along the tapeless workflow.

It just seemed odd using such a strange workaround to make a very mainstream delivery.

I’ll have a go at this. I need to deliver five programmes to a broadcaster as XDCAM422 files on a hard drive. Are they likely to be able to read these made in this way? I was expecting to have to put them in a Quicktime wrapper to make them more portable.

Hi Mike thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.

But this is still bugging me.

I have used the (very good) Wave Agent tool you reccomended, and that is one way of achieveing what I need, but I have to play out 8 files for each programme and then combine them, so it takes 10 times as long for each programme – but – thanks to you – I am able to deliver as specified.

BUT. I really feel I should be able to follow your instructions for Media Composer 5.5. and learn how to do this properly. However, I have spent a while serching around and I can’t find the ‘5.1, 7.1 discreet’ option you are telling me about. If I go to export/audio and set it to WAVE I just get the standard mono or stereo options, nothing else. I can’t find anywhere in the export dialog that offers this. Can you help (again) please,

Thanks for the help, but I still can’t quite get there!

Selecting direct out and then trying to export a WAV gives me the message’audio exports cannot be performed in Direct Out mode because clip based pan information is not applied. Please switch to Stereo Mix mode and listen to the panning before exporting.’

I can’t find a way past this, there is no panning on my TL.

Thanks for the reply, this is exactly hat I want to do – but I still can’t see how to do this, I guess I must be missing something.

If I select export/audio I just get a standard WAV option, I can’t see wher to go for a BWAV. CAn you advise?

When you say I/O hardware, I ues the adrenaline box (with DnxHD) does that count? The delivery spec does call for a multitrack WAV in one file if possible.
