When you did the renaming, did you do the “save as” to a different location than the original and you just haven’t looked there?

You can capture DVCPro HD via firewire to a FW800 drive so I think the scsi raid will be plenty fast enough.

Does it stop playing and tell you there is dropped frames or is it just kind of skipping into the following clip as it gets to the end of the dissolve?
Do you have enough footage on each clip for the length of the dissolve?
Have you tried rendering the effect? -

UN CHECK that prompt in your system preferences so you are not tempted to do every update that comes along. When you need to do an update make sure you read all the read me files about what the update will do, and decide whether you really need it or not. As for your current problem here’s a couple of things to try that may help.

USB is not capable of handling video on capture or editing. It is OK for using as a storage drive but not as a work drive. You would have better luck right now plugging your drive to the FW port on the computer and daising chaining the camera to the drive, although that is usually not recommended either but it would probably work better than USB.

I don’t know if the camera would be built using less quality parts, but I do know that some of the “onlne sellers” are importing cameras from other countries and selling them here in the U.S. Like from Japan for instance. Your manual would be in Japanese and if anything happened to the camera you would have to ship it back to Japan to get it repaired. These are reffered to as grey market products. They also advertise these low prices for the camera, but when you call or order on line, they then tell you the price doesn’t include any of the basic accessories that come standard with the camera from an authorized dealer, so they charge extra for those. So in the end you may not save much at all. For peace of mind you are better off buying from an authorized dealer in your country of residence.
