Wow !!! I cant believe that you cant do that. On windows you can…

BTW the FCP thing is because i posted on LAFCPUG and just copy/paste my post forgotting to erase the FCP part.

  • 1 – Your PLAYBACK OUTPUT from FCP should be 525i29.97 and be sure your timeline is the same.
2 – The FRAME BUFFER of the KONA CARD should be the same as your PLAYBACK OUTPUT from FCP.
3 – Right Click one of the SDI output in the AJA CONTROL PANEL (SDI1 or SDI2 depending which one your linking to the DVCPRO HD VTR) than choose 1080i29.97.
4 – Do your output. You shouldn’t have to touch your SD ratio since its a blowing up, the KONA CARD will do the job.

I did an up-converting from a SD DVCPRO timeline to a DVCPRO HD tape and thats the way i did it, it worked pretty well.

Here is a little something, might help.
My boss rent an helicopter to shoot the site from the air where McCartney was suppose to play in Quebec city. It was film with an XDCAM EX.

Yesterday i was ask to numerize those shots. But i did an error, i only transfered it on a hard drive, from the SxS card reader, not imported them in FCP. So today i tried to numerize them, guess what it didnt work.

I started to search on forums and find something. Someone said that in order to do that you have to download the latest update for XDCAM TRANSFER. Doing that, i was able to import the files in the XDCAM TRANSFER program but i was only able to see TC but no image or media at all.

Search again and found a PLUG-IN for LOG and TRANSFER on FCP. It only work on FCP version 6 and beyond. It worked and i imported the shots.

    Here is the link

First what is the format your shooting ? I mean 16×9 doesnt mean HD. You can shoot 16×9 in mini DV so it will be cool if you could write a bit about the specs.

If your shooting HD, you’ll have to take a downconvert output to record on a SD DVD Device. And on the device you output from you probably be able to set a format to output on your dvd device Like Letterbox. Than if you want to have the Burn-in in the ”black area” you’ll have to output in letterbox downconvert from the device.

If you put a time code burn-in on a native 16×9 the time code will be on the image. I mean even when you will convert it with letterbox. You have to rezize the image in letterbox before puting your Burn-in on it.

  • Got ya on this one dude. Ill try to be precise cuz my english is not that good.

Im working presently on a project shooted in DVCPRO HD and we got some P2 shots as well. Yesterdays i was trying to import P2 shots (wich was previously transfered to an external firewire disk by me) in my FCP project.

Guess what, im getting the “invalid directory structure”. So im wondering why cuz all others P2 shots that i imported before worked really well.

First i changed the name of the folder containing the folders “audio, video proxy..etc” but it did not worked better.

So i decided to check in previous project on the disk where the P2 shots were imported and i found the problem.

I made a mistake importing the last P2 shots. I imported directly the folders ” audio, video, proxy…” in a previously custom named folder. Thats why it didnt worked. The folders ” audio, video, proxy…” must be in a folder called CONTENTS.

So i created a new folder named CONTENTS, drag and drop the folders “audio, video, proxy…” the re-imported choosing that CONTENTS folder and it worked perfectly like the previous shots i imported.

So just check if your media exhange format files are contained in a folder named CONTENTS if not that might be the problem.
