  • P2 Import Error “has invalid directory structure.”

Posted by Gavin Rosenberg on November 29, 2007 at 10:16 pm

File Format: 720P 23.976 Transfered Directly on From PCMCI Slot on a PC Laptop running windows XP to a firewire 400 drive **NTFS Formated**

    The Full error message is:

“Wade Thompson” has invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches the supported media.

I’ve tested P2 File formats from that firewire drive from last years project, it was shot with the same HVX-200 camera and P2 Cards and loads perfectly, I’ve also transfered all P2 to separate internal storage of my Editing system (g5 FCP 6.0.2 w/sata storage). Which I first received the error message.

I’ve played back P2 images from 2 different separate P2 projects and loaded them successfully. Into final cut pro. (version 6.0.2, I’m not running FX Factory on this machine).

I’m having trouble with loading the P2 images only from this newly shot footage, I checked with the DP, they only played the footage back thru P2 in the camera, They transfered all the data from the card to the firewire drive directly.

Strangest thing, The director shot some additional footage with the same equipment and transfered the P2 image from P2 Card directly to the same laptop except directly to the laptops internal hard drive and that can be read by Panasonic P2 viewer PC software and Final cut pro. ***only the material transfered from the Card slot on the laptop to from P2 directly thru the computer to the firewire drive is not loading in any type of P2 viewer***

Is this a windows XP firewire bus issue?

Can I rewrite or tweak the mxf header files to get it to read it’s contents?

I’ve selected the correct folder to view the P2 data, I didn’t burry it in folders.

Any help for my client would be greatly appreciated.

    best,

    gavin-

Got ya on this one dude. Ill try to be precise cuz my english is not that good.

Im working presently on a project shooted in DVCPRO HD and we got some P2 shots as well. Yesterdays i was trying to import P2 shots (wich was previously transfered to an external firewire disk by me) in my FCP project.

Guess what, im getting the “invalid directory structure”. So im wondering why cuz all others P2 shots that i imported before worked really well.

First i changed the name of the folder containing the folders “audio, video proxy..etc” but it did not worked better.

So i decided to check in previous project on the disk where the P2 shots were imported and i found the problem.

I made a mistake importing the last P2 shots. I imported directly the folders ” audio, video, proxy…” in a previously custom named folder. Thats why it didnt worked. The folders ” audio, video, proxy…” must be in a folder called CONTENTS.

So i created a new folder named CONTENTS, drag and drop the folders “audio, video, proxy…” the re-imported choosing that CONTENTS folder and it worked perfectly like the previous shots i imported.

So just check if your media exhange format files are contained in a folder named CONTENTS if not that might be the problem.
