Oh dear sorry to hear that. You could try TOOLS > AUDIO MIXER then check the the little speaker icon directly under where it says ‘master’ is not lit. Other than that I’m out of ideas.

Personally I just do it manually. You should note that if you have custom window layouts or effects you have made favourites you will loose all of these settings and you will also have to tell final cut what default format you want your sequences etc. It the big reset button in FCP basically.

If that does not solve your issue then unless someone else can suggest something you might have to do a fresh install. Even the big editing houses wipe everything and re-install after a particularly big job. Clean App can help you do this, but it wont get it all, so some HD exploring might be required to find all the folders to get rid of it properly.

I had exactly the same problem last year, all I had to do is trash my prefs and everything was fine. Its not done it since.

I’m not sure if this is off any use but incase it is I thought I should post. I’ve just been speaking to someone that uses PP and during our chat he happened to mention that PP captures as .avi. Perhaps exporting out as the least compressed avi you can might be best. You may be in luck and PP might be happy with the footage captured via final cut. Hope that has given you an avenue of research.

Can you tell me if I can use the reference movie with multi clip editing, I had tried before but with no joy and nesting the clips does not seem to work either. This is why I was thinking of exporting the material again out of final cut. Also I believe that if your footage is in a reference file it wont save any colour corrections or effects. Would exporting a reference movie from final cut be doing the same thing as your software?

It might not be the exact model but that is the device. Its not a usual external e.g. a lacie drive. The main issue is what to export as from final cut, 4:2:2 gives me a file of 50GB and going out as DV PAL makes the quality awful but the same size as the original clips in total.

This happens to me too sometimes, personally I save what I can and restart the computer. It seems to be the only way.

I too have the same suspicions todd and thats why I did not offer a solution and was waiting until had satisfied me he was not ripping the latest Hollywood films.
