I have to admit that I never tried to move V5 timelines to V12.x, but as far as I know it should work. One thing I could imagine is that you need to move the media files from OS9 (or OS8 probably) to OSX, which can damage your media files depending on how you do the transfer. I think there were cases where the media files lost their type/creator info or something similar, which made them unrecognizable by Media 100. How do you move your media files over? Plus, I am not 100% sure if the media file format did get some changes in this time between V5 and V12 (it definitely was extended to e.g. support files >2GB), so maybe they really are incompatible.
One thing you could try is to create a very easy timeline with only a few clips, and do a .zip or .sit compression on the whole media file folder for the project before moving it to OSX. This should keep all info intact, as far as I know. -
Of course. Media 100 does use the Aja hardware these days anyway, so if you buy the Media 100 suite software you are able to run Media 100 and FCP on the same system with the same hardware (and nearly at the same time 😉 ). Plus, with the new V13 software, you can move programs including media files, transitions and audio keyframes from FCP to Media 100 and back instantly.
You should download the free 14day trial version of Media 100 V13 to try it out, and you can purchase a license directly from within the software and authorize it if it works for you (and I bet it will).

You should be able to create a composition clip in one of the Video tracks and access your RED projects within the composition clip. But I have to admit that my V8.2 days are over for some time already (V13 is the current version), so I hope that this is accurate. But I would suggest that you simply give it a try.

Hm, what do you mean by “pass through”? You are doing the downconversion on acquire, I guess? Do you use RS422 deck control? What happens if you set your Media Standard to HD in the Video Input Prefs without changing anything else? Do you get Timecode then?

No, as usual timelines are not backwards-compatible. There are new features in the timeline (multichannel audio) which cannot be read by older versions; therefore timelines from V13 will not open up in V12.7

A special note for Kona 3 card users. The new AJA driver downloads include a firmware updater for the Kona 3 cards only. v13 of Media 100 is currently NOT compatible with the new firmware. We’re already working on an update to M100 that will work with an update from AJA to get everything lined up again (except for QT, that is).”And here is an addition to this 😉
You don´t have to use the new Aja firmware with the 6.01 driver on the Kona 3. You can use the Kona3 6.01 driver with the old firmware and Media 100 V13, and everything should work as expected.
