  • Opening multi-track Boris RED files as M100i compositions

Posted by Maxwell Federman on October 21, 2008 at 9:00 pm

    Hello

A friend sent me some RED keyframer project files to use in a project I have been working on with Media100 8.2.1 with RED 4.1 for M100 installed.

These are complex projects with lots of tracks.

What is the routine for opening such files in 8.2.1?
Is it sufficient to create a composition in one graphics track to open RED files with multiple tracks?

Thanks for reading this, your help will save me some time I would have to spend experimenting.

You should be able to create a composition clip in one of the Video tracks and access your RED projects within the composition clip. But I have to admit that my V8.2 days are over for some time already (V13 is the current version), so I hope that this is accurate. But I would suggest that you simply give it a try.

    Hi Max,

    Short answer: Yes

    Longer answer…
    – Make a new Comp
    – Enter RED as usual
    – From File menu, Open Project…
    – When asked to save settings, choose “Don’t Save”
    – Navigate to place where your settings file is and bring it in

    That oughta do it.
