Hi John,
the 844/X codec never made the transition to Intel. So if you need to edit these files you probably have to do it on a PPC-based system.

Hmmm, “the best” is always a tricky question. Inside Media 100 you have some choice of Chromakeyers, either the internal one or the ones built into Boris Red. They work pretty well for some footage.
You also can use Ultimatte or Primatte inside AE, or Keylight which is pretty good and included in AE for free. Personally I think Ultimatte is one of the best keyers for challenging material, but usually not too fast, and as far as I know they haven´t released a version for AE CS5.5 -

Currently not, as far as I know. There was an OMF option earlier (sold separately), but as far as I can tell it has been discontinued. You can export FCP-compatible XMLs, though. And as far as I know, AAF export is somewhere on the roadmap.

You can work either with a single viewer monitor, or with Source/Record monitor.

Yes. In my experience it is much more reliable and much quicker for long-form editing that FCP.There is a free 14-day trial version available for download, so if you know V8 you could give it a try. You should feel at home pretty quickly.

It should come with 10.6.7. I don´t think they update the software on their shipping machines that often.

Get the Suite 1.7.1 installer and reinstall the application. Sounds like one of the components of the application is missing. You can download the 1.7.1 installer from the Media 100 support website.

Did you upgrade to 10.6.8, and do you have Media 100 i codec material in your timeline? If the answer to both questions is yes, then you are currently out of luck (except installing OSX 10.6.7 again or going to the backup of your system you made before installing 10.6.8, which you hopefully did). Apple broke the MJPEG-B codec once again, which is the base for the “old” Media 100 i codec.

Unfortunately there are some Kernel Extensions that are 32 bit only that we need. Plus, the first MacPro systems cannot boot in 64 bit mode at all, since their EFI is 32bit only. So hopefully an updated version will be released soon…

Aja tech support said to me that they don´t have an idea if engineering is working on a fix for this problem. Some of the earlier MacPros cannot boot in 64bit mode anyway. But you could try. There is a little tool called “32- or 64 bit Kernel startup”. If you search for it on macupdate,com, you will find it. This can tell you (and set you up) to boot in 64bit mode.

I am not 100% sure, but I would guess so. Try removing the ProRes codecs from your Library->QuickTime folder and see if you are up and running again then. The released ProApps codecs are officially only for 10.6.7 and later, so probably that´s what is causing your problems. Installing them with Pacifist circumvents the check if the files can be installed.
