Disk space is cheap these days, and Codecs like ProRes are really good. If you want to go uncompressed HD you need some seriously fast and big RAIDs. Therefore I would recommend working in ProRes through your whole production. Reacquiring of non-tape based media is non-trivial in Media 100 and not recommended.

[Andrew Mehta] “I gather you may have been involved with that Floh (along with staff at Boris), in which case, many thanks!”
Yeah, we worked a little bit on the installer issues. This is related to the new system protection in El Capitan (“rootless”)

[Cornelis van Liempd] “The installation stops. The message:” can not install Media 100″ appears.
“I initially upgraded my system from Yosemite to El Capitan with Media 100 already installed, so I was not sure how the installer would behave. I just tested the installation under El Capitan, and also got an error message. Let´s see what the reason is.

Actually Media 100 Suite 2.1.6 is not *tested* with El Capitan. I am running it on a test system right now, so at least it should install correctly. What kind of errors/messages do you get when trying to install?

October 22, 2015 at 8:43 am in reply to: after rendering hd material the image lose contrastWhich codec do you render to? There were some colorspace issues in older Media 100 versions with some codecs. Not really sure which version did fix this. As a test, try to render to another codec like ProRes or Media 100 HD to see if this makes a difference.

Yeah, I am still around. Have been somewhat busy in the last couple of weeks, doing some productions away from our office, which caused some delay in response times.
If you want to view your video full screen on one of the monitors, there is no “official” way to do that from within Media 100 to one of your computer screens. You only can make your viewer as large as possible (depending on your Media100 version this goes up to the resolution of your clip/timeline). But it won´t be used as a “video” monitor, which means that e.g. the refresh rate of your screen will probably not match the refresh rate of your video, which can produce some lines on your display during fast motions. And you will see the rest of the UI. Still, usually this can be quite useful.

Which preferences did you put into the trash? Does the app try to load a project? Do you have a Video I/O card in your system?

[Tom Gillen] “f I buy the Matrox box, I input SDI or HDMI into it and when it outputs HDMI into the MacBook, Media100 will allow input that way? It just turns on automatically? Why will it not work directly from the camera? I don’t get it…. Oh – Or is it because of the supplied software that comes with the Matrox that turns it on?”
The MacBooks and iMac do not have a hdmi input by default. You need some sort of interface that provides a HDMI input to activate the selection within Media 100.
The SDI-HDMI converter you mentioned is just that, a converter that generates HDMI signals from HD-SDI, but not an interface or capture card for a computer.
The HDMI to FireWire converter could work, though.

If you have a Kona or Matrox Card/Box that has HDMI inputs, the selection will be available.
