[Michael C.] “I would think the hardware (if not the software) should be able to handle that by now.”
As far as I know the hardware is capable of doing that. The support for that simply has not been finished in software.

[TIm] ” I’m looking for a solution.”
I have one for you. Send me your 30″ and you will get a nicely working 23″ for us. Perfect for HD monitoring 😉

[CameronT] “Looks like I need to get an aspect ratio converter or something”
As I said, you also can use the “Conform” command to convert your 16:9 anamorphic material to 4:3 letterboxed. It will need to process, but it is quick.

Is the data rate too high for your system? Are you using the HD compressor in SD or in HD? If it is HD you probably need a faster array. In the Bins list view, you can display the resolution of your clips to see if they are HD or SD. Press CMD-ALT-M to display the view settings, and turn on “resolution” or something similar.

Use to be, with Media100i, that I needed to also have composite from the Beta deck to the composite in on the Media100 to get good sync in component mode.
I’ve tried that with Media100HD and I’ve tried sending an isolated house sync to both the beta deck and the Media100HD but, almost always, I get vertical sync shift indicating loss of sync. “While we usually don

[Nick L.] “Specifically, if I have DV footage acquired in FCP, can I import that into the SW version and start working? “
Yes, sw will work with native DV files as Media 100 HD does. But I think you will have to wait until NAB to get a copy of it.

In hardware preferences, set your video mode to NTSC 720 and then create a new timeline. This timeline will be 720, and you will be able to place your “old” clips in this timeline. I would recommend to work at 720 always anyway. This way you will avoid the problem that you cannot mix 720 and 640 media.

[Michael Slowe] “Are Media 100 likely to find a way to overcome the fact that HDV is MPEG compressed?”
I think so. I think the more tricky point than the MPEG compression is the fact that HDV uses LongGOP compression, which does not give you a full image on every frame. But I think that HDV is a very interesting format these days, and I believe they will find a way to support that.

[Tim Silva] “In M100HD Preferences “Video Output” if I select HD out of SDI 2 that’s the only way I can fill the image on the Cinema display and then it blows it up and crops the ima”
If you have connected your BMD box to the SDI1 out you should be able to set up your HD out on SDI 1. As far as I know the HDLink does not work with 30″ cinema displays correctly, only with the 23″.
[Tim Silva] “And I also lose my SD component monitor. “
This should not happen.
