I would guess that this is a hardware problem. Have you tried running the hardware diagnostics?

Is the serial port recognized in Media 100s hardware setup (Device control)? If yes, do you get a error message or simply no response from the deck? Which OS and Media 100 version do you use?

Um, I think the whole point of Media 100 sw is to compete with FCP and FCE, and to have a “smaller” and cheaper version of the application that supports FireWire devices. And I think as an existing Media 100 i user you won

I would doubt that sw will access 3rd party capture boards, since Media 100 builds its own hardware with Media 100 HD, but probably nothing is 100% sure…

[matt Short] “why do you feel its the cpu upgrade? everything else on the computer works great.”

Because V8.2.2 works nicely for others on 10.4 (including our short tests here), and you have taken everything else out of your CPU that could cause the problem. Plus, CPU upgrades were never officially recommended or supported by Apple.

[matt Short] “its a free download”

It is a free downnload for V8.2 users, but the V8.1->V8.2.x upgrade is not free. You need a new encryption code for that.

[matt Short] “I upgraded from OS9 to OSX.4 and wasn’t able to install M100 8.2.2. Media 100 told me to install it in 10.3 and all will be fine. Still waiting on Panther to arrive.”

I think it is much more likely that this is related to your CPU upgrade card than to OSX 10.4 itself…

If you have a running system, do yourself a favor and get a cheap internal or FireWire drive and clone your system drive to that before installing the Update. Then you can get back to a working system if there is a problem with OSX 10.4

Media 100 i V8.1.1 does not work reliably under OSX 10.3.x; the kernel panics you are seeing are one of the known problems. You should upgrade to V8.2.2 to get this to work. Or install Media 100 sw and export from that. But you should create copies of your timelines since once you saved (or autosaved) them in sw you cannot open them in Media 100 i any longer.
