What do you use to create your tapes? Or are you only outputting files? What tape formats do you need?

Media 100 or iFinish (the Windows version) never did write AVI files natively; the whole application is built on top of QuickTime. So I am not really sure what kind of files you have there. It is possible that there was a way to write AVI files with the Media 100 codec, but I have never heard of something like this.
Have you tried opening the files in e.g. VLC Player? Even if they don´t show video, you should be able to see in the Clip Properties which codec is used.
The Media 100 i codec only exists for Mac systems these days…

Mountain Lion was released today. The Media 100 guys are working on an update to fix some small problems, but of course the update needs to be tested with the final shipping version. So I guess it would be good to hold off upgrading to Mountain Lion on production systems, at least until the update has been released.

If you produce only for DVD and computer monitors, you should be shooting progressive, since (most) LCDs/LEDs/Plasmas only can display progressive images. So everything that is interlaced has to become progressive somewhere, and that usually means losing resolution.
And, if you take a 720*480 or 720*576 image, and if you then scale it up to 1920*1080, you once again introduce artifacts during the upscaling. This depends heavily on the DVD player or display which does the scaling, and usually older and/or cheaper displays do that worse than newer and more expensive ones.
Now, if you want to or need to deliver by DVD, you should check your images on a CRT or at least on a Mac DVD drive playing back the image at 100% resolution, not scaling it up to show it full screen. This way you should be able to tell if your DVD is okay, or if you already introduced artifacts when compressing your footage for DVD.
From there, you can only try to educate your clients about how to improve image quality (like producing in HD, playing back from Blu-Ray, keeping the image size reasonable for SD sources, setting a DVD player up correctly to play widescreen DVDs back as widescreen,…)

Yeah, the usual “mixed color ranges” problem. Since Media 100 can use a range of codecs, and some of them are decoded as 16-235 (luma range) and some as 0-255, you will see jumps if you open the exported clip in a QuickTime based application. For DVDs, you should do a QuickTime export, e.g. to ProRes. Make sure that you use the “Computer (0-255)” color Range, which is what Compressor expects.
If you are working in NTSC land, you probably should export to DV anyway, since Media 100 corrects for the 480/486 lines problem during this export automatically.

Try upgrading to Lion 10.7.4. This works fine with Media 100 Suite 2.1.1; maybe it fixes some of your problems.
Some additional comments: – Undos are really fast on all of our systems, except for extremely complex sequences (over 3 hours with a lot of multiclip editing). The only thing that (for us) really slows down Undos is heavy use of Mutliclips. Are you working with muticlips in your timeline? If yes, using them increases the number of used clips (and therefore the complexity) quite dramatically. Not really something you can change, but maybe keep in mind as a reason.

Never have seen that without a reason. Are you sure that there is nothing blocking your move action? Locked track? Audio clip somewhere? Keep in mind, if you drag a group of clips on VaVb and V1 and up, you can only drag on the VaVb-Clip and not on the clips on V1 or higher. This is a bug or at least a limitation that is known but obviously difficult to fix.

Unfortunately the OS does not really give a proper warning in advance. Would be really great if this would be handled differently, though.

Hmmm, exporting is usually extremely reliable on my systems. Do you have some unusual QuickTime components installed? Have you checked your media drives with something like DiskWarrior or Disk Utility lately? And if this happens often, you probably should do a “Force Render All” and a “Save all” before exporting. Of course the app should not crash, but this could save you probably some rendering time.

In the “Media Destinations” window, there are “Search” bubbles for all your volumes. You can deactivate the search for the volumes that you don´t want to be searched. Much better chance to hit the right ones than in the “relink media” window if there are only a few clips on your drives. And btw, if you do a “relink media” again (e.g. after hitting “cancel” in the Relink media search), it will once again search on all your selected volumes. So no reason to kill Media 100 during a relink media…

Unfortunately, as of today, there still hasn’t been a fix released by Matrox 🙁
“Again, not sure if this is of any help, but I heard that there has been done some work on Media 100s side to better support the Matrox 2.5 drivers. If this is what you are (or tried to) using, then you should get in touch with Media 100 tech support; I guess they could give you a beta version to test if this fixes your issues…

Delete the “Media 100 Suite” folder; or move it to the desktop in case you want to recover the settings later
