The question is related to giving elements as interlaced (with fields) as you normally would do e.g. on tape, or as progressive (without fields), which can be used on LCDs/TFTs/Plasmas much better, since these displays cannot show progressive footage correctly.
Media 100 i does always work in interlaced mode. If you want to create a progressive movie from your interlaced footage you need to convert it somewhere. The question is how you are going to deliver this stuff. If you are giving them files (e.g. MPEG2 files) you need to convert your QuickTimes anyway, and most likely I(depending on the software you are going to use) this would be the best stage to do the deinterlacing. Definitely you want to export the files from Media 100 as usual as “By Reference” files, and then do the deinterlacing either in e.g. AfterEffects or in your encoding software.

Either you need to download the newest version of StuffIt expander or you need to redownload the codecs. I just downloaded them and I get a zip file containing an application. If you get a folder you also could try to add a .app extension to the name of the folder. Maybe something got wrong with your download and instead of seeing an application you see the actual bundle with its content. Adding .app to the folder name should revert it to a application bundle.

if you want it cheap and fast you should go SATA; there are various cards and external chassis using SATA and PortMultipiler technology that give great performance for SD work, even with multiple layers. And with some striped drives you even should get into the HD performance range. Maybe you should contact macgurus.com or another store/company who offer Mac SATA solutions. The good thing if you buy a “whole” solution (cards, drives and chassis) from one reseller is that you should be good to go and to get the performance they claim. If not you have somebody to talk to.

Um, there is no V8.5. Are you speaking about V7.5 (OS9) or V8.2.x (OS X)?

Have you applied ColorFX to the clip? While the system can play them back in realtime it has to render them before you e.g. can apply effects/titles to a ColorFXed clip or before you can export it. Try removing all ColorFX and see if this changes anything. Or, as you said, play it out to tape and redigitize it.

Another option would be to use the Media 100 sw trial version for this. It can use native DV clips from FinalCut or from other sources directly (without transcoding); and the upcoming version also will be able to digitize and output to DV directly.

If they want to do the chroma keying themselves, edit the clips they are going to use and export them as “Uncompressed” QuickTimes from your timeline (using the Animation codec at its hightes settings). This is a very universal codec that can be read by AE on the PC as well as on the Mac, plus by many other applications.

You either have a corrupted StuffIt archive or an old version of StuffIt. Download the newest version of Stuffit expander and re-download the codecs. You should get an installer application after unstuffing.
