Where are you seeing this? In Media 100 already? Is it visible in your exported file (by ref from Media 100)? Or only in your encoded MPEG? From what you are describing it sounds like a 16-235/0-255 range problem. The dissolve seems to be rendered in a 0-255 codec, while the original clip is in 16-235. Unrender the dissolve, set the rendering codec to Media 100 i (or Media 100 HD) and render again. Export and look at the resulting QuickTime.

You could try changing the “advanced” deck control setting from “fast cue” to “use decks internal cue”. You can find it in the Preferences->Device Control when clicking on the “Configure” button next to the DQ Timecoder while pressing COMMAND, CTRL and SHIFT

This still is the case with the Media 100 codecs (844/X, Media 100 HD and Media 100 i), but it is not true for “generic” QuickTime codecs. So one reason for your problem could be a jump between 2 different codec color spaces. Say you have digitized into Media 100 i codec and you are rendering into Uncompressed 8bit 4.2.2 codec you would create luma jumps in an Quicktime (by ref or self-contained) export as soon as the rendered part starts. The Media 100 i codec file would use 16-235 RGB values and the transition would use 0-255 RGB, causing a jump as soon as a transition starts and ends. To avoid this, make sure that you work in one “class” of codecs (either in the Media 100 codecs or in the standard QuickTime codecs). But from your description I am not really sure if this is what you are seeing.

You can use Apple Compressor for this. In its best settings it will produce brilliant results, but with horrible rendering times. Of course you could also use e.g. AfterEffects for a NTSC to PAL conversion.

Two additional questions: What sample rate do you use? We use 48kHz all the time and never have seen this problem. Do you use 44.1kHz? And do you re-use media files over and over again, e.g. could it be that there is a damaged audio media file that you carry from project to project?
What happens if you e.g. try to export the finished timeline in e.g. 15 minute audio parts (using the “Range” setting in the export window after setting mark in and out on your timeline)? Will it crash/stop always on the same position?
One other thing you could try is to download the Media 100 producer trial version from the Borisfx website and install it on your G4. Then open a copy of your project (and yes, you definitely want to make a copy of your project, bin and timeline files!!!) in Producer and try exporting from there, just to figure out if this maybe was something that got fixed in the lastest Media 100 code. As I said, we never saw that under V8.2.x or earlier, but maybe it is related to something else that has been fixed in the meantime. -

At the end of each reel, Producer continues to display “Acquiring…” and if you don’t press stop soon enough, the system locks-up.”This could be related to slow drives or recording conflicts. We only have seen something similar when we had problems with the Media drive, e.g. it was nearly full.

You can turn this off if you want to. There is a setting under “Titles & Effects” saying “Render All before Mastering”. If you turn that off the system will not render all before Mastering.

It is either Shift and CTRL or ALT and Command. One is for audio and one for video, but I always forget which is for which.

If deleting the prefs did not work I would suggest starting to remove QuickTime components from Library->QuickTime and YourHomeFolder->Library->QuickTime. I still think that there is something in these folders that causes your problems

Have you installed any “unusual” QuickTime Codecs? Have a look into your Library->Quicktime folder, maybe you see something suspicious there. Plus, if you are running V11.5 you should upgrade to 11.5.1
