It depends on your system, HD speed, CPU speed,… but I did a short performance test right now and exporting a 1 minute clip (video and stereo audio) took under 10 seconds (QuadG5, 11.5.1 on a fast RAID). Plus, you can do a batch export e.g. of all clips in a bin via AppleScript easily.

Usually you would export audio and video as one QuickTime file. But since you cannot export them together without crashing you can copy audio and video together in QuickTime Player Pro (if you have QT Pro). Open both the video and audio clips, select all in the audio clip, copy the audio, go to your video movie, make sure the cursor is parked at the beginning and press CMD-ALT-V to paste into Movie. Now you have V and A together in one QuickTime, and you can now convert as you like.

The best way would be to export the digitized clips as “Self Containted” files (they should export pretty fast) including video and audio. This way you can e.g. watch them in QuickTime player.
Another option would be to watch them in Media 100 Producer on the laptop, but of course you would need to buy a license. You could download the 14day trial version of Producer to see if this would be a viable workflow. If the director has all the material and Producer you also could email him a timeline/program file which would relink to his material; this way you could easily send over edits for approval. -
You definitely should check your audio setup.
What happens is that you have 2 channels on your camera; “Left” or channel 1 is the channel that has your Boom Mic, “Right or channel 2 is the one tha thas either the cameras onboard mic, or nothing.
When you acquire the audio into Media 100 i or if you place it on a timeline you can adjust the pan of each track. So when digitizing in the default settings and placing your audio on the timeline you should hear the mic sound on the left and nothing (or some noise) on the right when playing back from MediA 100. If this does not happen you definitely should check the way you monitor audio from your Media 100 system.
If you now expand the audio track where your Channel 1 is placed (probably A1), you will see a volume and a pan level. Adjust the Pan to the center and your audio should play evenly on both channels, giving you the exports (and the playback) you would expect.

I think somebody really should assemble a list of all different codecs and their field order. In Media 100 HD, all PAL codecs except DV are Upper field first. So Media 100 i, 844/X, Animation,… are upper field first. DV Codecs (DV&DVCam for sure, and I think also DVCPro25, but not sure about this one) are lower field first in PAL. All HD codecs in 50i are Upper field first.
Most of the NTSC codecs (Media 100 i, 844/X and I think also all DV-based codecs) are lower field first. 59,94i HD material is Upper Field first.I don

Are you working with PAL DV-Sources that get acquired into Media 100 i codec, or are you working in the actual DV/DVCpro25/50 codec inside Media 100 HD or Producer? This is a difference, since the Media 100 i codec (and all material that gets acquired into this codec) is upper field first in PAL.

PAL codecs are upper field first, except DV-based codecs (DV, DVCam, DVCPro25, I think), which are lower field first. NTSC 720 is lower field first.
