April 6, 2009 at 8:50 pm in reply to: CS4 Doesn’t recognize Animation Codec?

I had an Avid editor edit some footage that was captured from a P2 card using FCP. He had to get some sort of driver to see the footage.

    This might be it:

I’m thinking the driver might work going both ways.

Does the content that’s being cut-off go beyond the borders in the pre-comp that it’s coming from?

Drop the RAM preview resolution down to half and shrink your Comp’s window down to 50%. It’s essentially 100%… essentially…

You said other commercials look fine. Try asking them (producers of the other commercials) what they deliver.

I worked at a news station for awhile and they could only put certain Quicktime codecs from FCP in the system (something like DVCPro50, I think).

You’re better off asking the people you’re delivering it to, or even better, going down to the station with a few different formats. They should be able to throw something up on a live feed’thing’a’ma’jig that will give you an idea of what the final quality would be.

Isn’t Conan’s done live with a still frame?

I think they mask out the celebrities mouth and composite it over a close up of someone talking.

You can do it in post the same way.

Mask out mouth of celebrity still.
Shoot close up of someone’s mouth from a similar angle, who’s standing still, saying what you want.
Composite celebrity still over stand in footage.
Resize and position stand in footage of mouth to match celebrity.
Color correct stand in footage to match celebrity still.

Sounds like something that you might be able to fib by using a displacement map… thinking out loud… tint (B&W) the shirt and use the wrinkle’s shadows to warp clean plate which was tracked to the shirt, change the layers blending mode…

It’s making sense in my head…

All in all, you can key that footage. It just might not be as easy as it could have been.

If anyone’s interested, I found the answer to my question.

Make a slug, add the effects you want, go to effects / make favorite effects, and it’ll show you what the short cut key is, which you can change if you want.

Pretty handy if you’ve got some sort of crazy concoction of effects that you like.
