Thanks for the response. I’ve never used DTrace, but I’ll give it a shot. From my experience, I’ve never had a drive/RAID not be able to sustain a DVCPROHD 1080p30 (~15MB/s) stream. Even a LaCie rugged drive (5400rpm) can stream DVCPROHD via FW800 without lagging/skipping. From everything I’ve read, these Qx2 drives should be able to play back a DVCPROHD file. Any other ideas?

I have the same issues and I’m looking into Mac Magna’s File Finder (https://macmagna.com/filefinder/index.htm) as a way to find duplicate files and as a way to manage multiple hard drives. What’s your DLT setup?

  • To get more control over how Media Manager re compresses your files, go to…

Final Cut Pro > Audio/Video Settings > Sequence Presets Tab > Choose a preset that best matches your settings > Duplicate > Change the settings > Click OK…

Media Manager > Media: Recompress > Recompress media using: choose the new sequence settings you created…

    Hope that helps.

  • I’d use media manager in FCP to recompress your current edit/sequence and use compressor to recompress your H264 files. Recompress to Pro Res.

  • Try switching the field order/output in compressor.

It’d be back tracking, but capturing offline might be the way to go. 18 angles at Pro Res seems like a lot for your computer. Then you can online the final edit and bring that straight into Color. If I had the time to recapture, that’s what I’d do. Otherwise, try turning your render settings down.

    Thanks for the feedback.

What I ended up doing was opening that clip in the viewer, making a subclip, selecting the subclip and running media manager to get rid of the unused media. Then I made it offline and recaptured it with 1sec handles in HD…

My guess is there’s an easier way that I’m not aware of. Shouldn’t have to get rid of a clip to make a new one…
