Thank you for the response. Yes, it’s actually 2 GB RAM (I mistyped). I’m not certain where my scratch disks are because I didn’t set up the program and I can’t even get into the program to check now or to change any settings. That is, unless there is another way without going through the program.

Yes, the files are mostly .dv there are other pprojs with HD.

I guess I don’t understand why it wouldn’t work on this system – our IT people made sure that the machine had all the specs/requirements specifically to run PPro CS5. And as said, it was working fine previously.

I’m quite perplexed about this. I haven’t been able to get through to Adobe, but I will keep trying.

Thank you Jeff and Jon for the advice. I placed the 16:9 clips on a separate track and that seemed to do the trick. The funny thing, however, is that I have another section with a dissolve between a 4:3 and 16:9 clip and there wasn’t any issues.

Dear All,
Sorry to respond so late, but thank you for all your advice re: Mpg-2 files and Premiere. I wasn’t using a trial version, so I am still not certain what the problem was. I actually uninstalled the program and have since returned to my PC version, where everything seems to be working fine. One day, I will upgrade to FC Pro for my mac.

well, when i import the mpg files, PPro tells me that the files are too large in width and height. the source files are 1440×810 and what i have been instructed in the past is to set up the project as HDV 1080i (reason = because HDV 1080i utilizes 1440×1080 frame with 1.33 pixel aspect ratio). I have actually tried to resize these files to 720×480 but my quicktime doesn’t view the mpg (even with their plug-n) as well as other conversion programs BUT they are viewable without any issues with VLC.

Hi there. These files were captured directly from a Sony HDV-DVCam via PProCS3 on a PC. When capturing ind files, the only option was to save them as MPG. I didn’t think it would have been an issue since I had also used MPG files in Premiere. This is why I was surprised that PProCS4 wouldn’t accept them. I just checked the file info and it says MPEG2 video codec. Is the codec the reason why PPro won’t import them? If so, how do I change that without having to redigitize the tapes in another system (which I just don’t have)? Thanks

yes, the files created were digitized from HDV tapes and the files are mpeg.

Thanks Alex – I know it may be better with AE. Unfortunately, I don’t have AE at the moment. I’ve tried multiple things and flickering continues and it’s a bit maddening. I just flattened the image so the text and photo are one, took it into Premiere and it’s still flickering. I’m at my wits end with this one.
