the After effects plugin of the same name ,”Adjust -> Color Balance” is functionally identical to the Photoshop one.
It has a different GUI: you see all 9 sliders at the same time and they’re not labelled cyan – 0 – red etc. just Red Color Balance

“Adjust Image -> Color Balance (HLS)” is more of a very simple Photoshop “Hue/Saturation” without coloration and without a range selector.

Don’t confuse the both !

Also if you have the AE6.5 installer cd, Color Finesse is included on the cd via a seperate installer (along with other stuff such as 3D assistants lite etc.)

If you don’t have 6.5, upgrade! It’s great value.

do a search, this question gets asked a lot over here, so there are a lot of answers out there.
If you’re serious about this stuff, I’d look out in the posts for suggested 3rd party plug-ins.
AE itself can do some conversion but it’s not really HQ.

Some people recommend doing it with dedicated hardware at a studio.

And try to work backwards, you can track backwards, and it’s better to start out with a large detailed mask that you scale down than vice versa.

Did you interpret as interlaced (AE will prob. do that automatically when it sees it’s a DV file)
Then, did you render with fields.
If you didn’t, only the first field is used in the final render.

Just set those layers to draft quality and render using current settings; not best.

But beware that you also loose sub-pixel position animation, and that will be noticeable if you have slow crawling motion.
Maybe do a pre-render to scale them up into a Quicktime-movie, then bring them back in to move them around.

I would say it’s not smart, especially if you’re going to do rotations.
An image that’s squished horizontally to pal won’t need to be squished by after effects. True.

But if you rotate it to say 90

I haven’t seen the footage, but if the camera has a handhled feel then sometimes it’s easier to stabilize the footage so your window doesn’t move, do your masking and the de-stabilze the shot.

You can use the path-text effect though, it can emulate typewriters.
It’s explained in the manual.
