  • How to apply Motion Tracker info to a Mask?

    Hi,

Here’s what I’m trying to do — make a character’s eyes glow. It’s a 30 second shot and the camera zooms into his face during it.

I thought I might be able to do this by:
    1) Duplicating the layer and on the top most layer making two masks (one for each eye)
    2) On the bottom layer,I’d use Motion Tracker to track a point in the image and apply the tracker information to the Shape of the Masks on the top layer. That way, the eyeball masks would resize and reposition as the camera zooms into the character’s face.

However, it seems Motion Tracker info can only apply to a layer’s entire Position and Scale parameters

Is there a way to apply Motion tracker info to a mask shape?

Or, am I going about this the wrong way? How would you do it?

    thanks for your help,
    james

Instead of trying to use a mask shape, create the mask and precomp it, then use a luma matte to mask the footage, then apply the Motion Tracker data to the precomp. Since the precomp is the same size as the footage, should track better.

I had the same issue a couple of years ago. The way I just described is how I think I dealt with it. If I have a moment tomorrow I’ll see if I can find the AE file and check.

    Good luck, Hope this helps

Thanks. I’ll give it a try and post the result.

And try to work backwards, you can track backwards, and it’s better to start out with a large detailed mask that you scale down than vice versa.

Thanks for the helpful advice. I haven’t had the most desirable results yetl; for some reason, the precomp layer (with the masks) ended up floating way up at the top of the frame after applying the tracker info.

    But I’ll take another crack.
