I used a Pioneer DVD-R replacement drive in my G4-733 Quicksilver and it worked great… I believe Pioneer is a great replacement choice.

Also I have a Lacie Desktop DVD+-RW connected via firewire to my iMac running 10.4.8, and it works seamless with what I’ve done. Blank discs appear in the finder, and DVDSP and Toast both see it as a option when burning discs.

Though any specifics to your machine, I do not know.

I did not re-render after applying the timecode filter, as I did not get any red or green bar appear on the timeline.. It makes sense that the footage
must be fully rendered to make a reference file movie, as the reference quicktime would need rendered files to refer to.

Would it still need to be rendered even though it does not display a need to render?.. do my real time playback settings have anything to do with this?

The harddrive i’m outputting to is FAT32, I have it setup that way because we needed it to transfer data to/from some PCs.

Does this mean to import from the the data that has been copied TO the harddrive and not at all from the P2 card?

Also, is it best to copy to the harddrive as just a regular drag/drop copy (Of the entire card contents of course) to the hard drive, or is it best to make a disc image of the P2 card?

Recently i’ve been importing right off the P2 card, then making a drag/drop backup to the FW800 drive, AND making a disc image copy of the P2 card right to the PB G4 1.67. Am I to a point overdoing it?

Looks like i’m asking before thinking.

I slowed down a few clips to 40% to match the 12fps, and something was wrong.. I didn’t realize I had “frame blending” checked when adjusting the clip speed, which should obviously be off to achieve a stobe type effect.

Excellent. That is what the initial plan is. With the hope of adding the elements of the XSan down the line.

We would utilize a set of four 500GB drives on each side to tap into to start with, and then max it out, and reformat with the implementation of the XSan.

Wow, that totally slipped by me. I noticed the absence of FW800 in the MacBookPro’s.. but no PCMCIA? That’s kinda lame.

Sounds like my best option for the On-Site P2 ingesting is that G4 Powerbook since it has FW800 and a PCMCIA slot.

I’d rather not go with the adapters and such when they are yet to be ‘proven’, and just add to the extra ‘stuff’ I would need
to manage on the shoot.

I should clarify, this is not technically a ‘broadcast dub’, this a dub from MiniDV to VHS for
Mr. Everyday Citizen and his wife who are visiting relatives in Russia.

We did the dub in MESECAM, as we have an international VHS deck, and we selected “U.S.S.R.”
region and MESECAM was it’s default.

From what I understand, the only difference is in the audio, so I’ll hope for the best!
