Hi Vishesh,
Many thanks for your kind reply. I followed the link, but it doesn’t quite deal with my issue. I am working with comps that consist of stills and assets crested within AE (text, solids etc.) and no VT. What I need to know is how to set up my comp (using the composition settings dialogue) so that I can export interlaced. For instance, do I set my comp up as a 25fps project, then select interlaced on export? Alternatively should I set up my comp as a 50fps comp and then select 50i on export?
Thanks again.

November 8, 2012 at 5:34 pm in reply to: Unwanted movement between keyframes of the same value.Ah – nailed it. Select “Break tangents”. I also found that tinkering with the F curve gave me good reference info for selecting an appropriate percentage in the ‘Value’ field. It was important for me to go in and tidy things up in the keyframe attributes box though, since I have two different splines controlling my camera – position and target. I needed these to match velocity.
Above ramble for the benefit of anyone else who might run into this.
Thanks again.

November 8, 2012 at 5:15 pm in reply to: Unwanted movement between keyframes of the same value.Hi John,
Thanks for your helpful reply. Trying to do it right, therefore I’ve been looking at the kayframe attributes. I had assumed that if I want a keyframe to ease in but not ease out, I would set Left Value to, say, 5% and then right value to 0%, however when I change one, the other automatically changes too, i.e when I alter the left value (for either ‘Time’ or “Value’) the right one alters accordingly.
Am I missing something obvious?

Indeed I am using DoF. I’m outputting a test render using Best AA. Can you recommend a low cost alternative to the built in DoF?

Hi Adam,
That’s a great tutorial, thanks!
I’ve rendered out a little test, it’s a simple model with some objects made with glass like materials. I have two lights in the scene. When I play my rendered file, I’m getting terrible flickering from the specular highlights – some actually appear as little disks with a black outline. Any clues how I rectify this?
Thanks!
Fab

That’s a great idea. Mind if I ask for some advice though – I take it it’s not as simple as just creating proxies. If I understand correctly, rendering out a proxy is a means of creating working files. When you go to render the final comp AE will re-render those files you’ve created proxies for. Am I corrrect?
Therefore I’ll need to disable the other layers in my comp. However, as I mentioned earlier, two of the four Particular layer are psuedo-shadows. How do I set the comp up so that when I re-import the rendered file it will retain transparency etc?
Thanks for your answer, really appreciate you taking the time.

Aaahhh…..licked it…
Premiere uses absolute file paths and the drive letter of my external HDD had changed. Switching it back soollved the problem.
Nothing to see here…..!

Yup, that’s what I was doing. However selecting “Autokeying” seemed o fix the problem!

Thanks to you both for your thoughtful replies.
As per the subject line, the weird thing about this issue is that RAM preview is unaffected by just about any setting I try. Even in wireframe it’s playing at most 7fps. This is once it’s created the preview i.e I have a nice green line atop my timeline. Even weirder is that once it’s generated a preview it’ll play back at roughly the same speed it does when I select draft/quarter res settings and hit spacebar.
Just to be clear, I have two nested comps that I built in 1080 nested within my SD comp. They’re not particularly complex, nor do they contain any 1080 vt. The two lights are only used in the first 8 seconds of the main comp, at which point they are switched off. Switching them off for the purpose of identifying the bottleneck yielded little conclusion.
There must be something I’m doing wrong here since the actual renders of my final files are coming out superspeed – in fact in half the time my quad core MugBug Pro has managed. It’s far from my first AE project but it is the first on the T3400.
Thanks again!

Thanks for your reply Dave.
I haven’t any long GOP media in my project, indeed I don’t have any video at all, just vectors psds and jpgs. That is useful information though – HDV etc. is such a headache – added a whole unwanted step to my Avid workflow since I’m used to lovely Digibeta and DVCPro HD.
I’ve already disabled open GL and set up my preferences in line with several good guides on the subject. What is such a surprise is that the RAM preview is much slower on my T3400 than on my little M90 laptop.
