Agreed. A DSLR will give you much better results. The ability to “drag the shutter” creates natural motion blur in each frame which aides in creating smooth motion.

If you don’t have a digital camera and have to use the HDX, I would recommend just setting your interval and record single frames unless you foresee the need to go to real time at some point in the TL. Easier to deal with in post, no speed ramping and in the end, both methods will produce the same result. The only advantage to shooting everything is it gives you control over how long the final movie will be but, if you plan ahead and shoot at the proper interval you can nail it every time.

Check this link out, which will answer many of your questions about camera settings, proper interval settings etc specifically for TL shooting. Its written for a DSLR, but you can take a lot from it if you go the HDX route.

Assuming you are sending it component, in the Kona control panel, do you have the analog out to send “Component (Beta)”?

Excuse the obvious but, is the Component input on the front of the 1800 selected ?

Is the Kona selected in FCP (in the View menu) for video out? Should already be if you selected the Kona in Easy Set up.

Are you downconverting HD material to the Beta deck? If so, have you set it up to downconvert in the Kona control panel or is it trying to send the HD signal to the deck?

Thanks guys, the update to 6.0.4 is working currently. I’m still a bit hesitant about the system though, but at least I can work today!

    Jeremy,

I did follow it but, no, it is not the error I’m getting. The one I’m getting is: “File Error: Wrong Type.”

I agree it’s sounds and smells like a system problem. I’m going to take this version of FCP down and reinstall. I might have to go to 6.0.4 though, as I didnt save the updater for the 6.0.2 version and Apple is pretty bad about keeping older versions available for download on their site. Maybe I’ll get lucky.

Will let you know how it turns out.

Curious indeed. I’ve been working under the theory of “If it aint broke, dont fix it” for a while now with 6.0.2, but it looks like it’s broken and needs fixin’. I just hate having to update to fix things, you know?

I’ll let you know how it works out.

I took all my media offline and tried again, but it’s still not recognizing the projects. In the application itself, all the project files are grayed out. I have another system here @ 6.0.2 as well, which will open the files in question, so I would think it is not the projects, but the app itself that is corrupt somehow.

    Ha! I like it.

The intermission isnt a bad idea. I’ll suggest it to the director. Of course, it would have to come directly on the 1 hour mark, unless I do three tapes…hmmm.

That is an option for sure, but this is for live screening so I would need a deck for playback as well. So I might as well just go for the cheaper rental, which I’m assuming would be the 1700. Panasonic has been very generous with this director and he is looking into getting a deck directly from them for this.
