  • Thanks for your response Michael. I should have also stated I am working in Apple ProRes HQ, and as I said field dominance is set to “none” in the FCP sequence, and I did not render animation with interlacing either. So why is interlacing still an issue?

Thanks Shane. I was having the opposite problem though. I just spoke with another editor at my network, and to get rid of the closed captions I had to crop the top portion of the shots. All footage was captured from digibeta using an AJA Kona LHe.

The problem with the particular shots I was working with was the closed captions contained expletives, and considering the promos are for on-air, this was not going to fly.

At the top of the shots there are white dashes that can be seen from the FCP canvas window, but not from the external monitor. These dashes contain the CC info, so basically it had to be cropped out, or alternatively have a black solid covering it. All is good now!

What was your method of burning, and what kind of disc did you burn it to?

Even after using the Sony provided program to convert mts to the m2ts file format on my client’s PC, FCP did not recognize the files in the Log and Transfer. I guess I am out of luck.

    Hey Shane,

So I have the footage here – it’s the .mts format and FCP’s Log and Transfer is not recognizing it. I also attempted to bring in the whole folder from the drive containing all the additional files that associate with the clips and no luck.

    Any other suggestions?

Thanks Shane. I was under the impression that it was not so simple.

Does Log and Transfer work just for the camera itself, or can I use this method with the files he has on the external hard drive as well?

    Hey David,

I don’t think you want to “overwrite” your material – it sounds like you just have to get some organization out of the way and then batch capture your material.

    1) Scroll over to your Reel column in the browser – when you captured the original material before rearranging projects did you keep the titles on your tapes and fill out the Reel name in the capture window when you were capturing so you know what clips are associated with what tape?

    2) If you did, great just select the clips in your bin that associate with each specific tape and batch capture for that tape/reel. If not, you can manually change the Reel column according to what tape you think the clip is associated with, and then do batch capture for each tape.

You should be able to get away without having duplicate footage if you implement this correctly. Hope that helps.

    Hey thanks for answers guys.

    Two more quick questions:

    1) Is there a way to lower the gain of a piece of audio before i insert it into the timeline?

    2) Is it possible to turn off Trim Mode automatically turning on when going through cut points in the timeline?

I would like thank everyone who responded to my post. All of your answers are thoughtful and insightful, and certainly give me bearing on how I need to approach using my skills and talent, and having the mettle to keep at it when the market is not so hot.

    Best,

I have had similar experiences, and I have always been out of luck. The file was not written completely because of the glitch. You’re going to have to capture again. If you’re capturing a large amount of footage, I suggest breaking it up if this is a pretty consistent problem for you. Good luck.
