More specifically the Decklink SDI card.

Yeah. I want to be able to work in a 2k timeline but be able to grade that signal through my HD monitor in Rec709. I do not have the full priced version of Resolve yet and I’m trying to figure out if I need a new card. I only have the i/o card.

    Great. That’s what I figured.

I’m still a little new to Resolve and not fully aware of all it’s limitations and capabilities yet. These newer younger clients have very high expectations. I explained he could go to a Smoke or Flame suite if he wants to do everything in one app instead of us having to roundtrip his incredibly complicated spot back to Final Cut Pro to see all this layered effects.

    Thanks for writing Joseph.

    Roman-

Did you ever find a solution to this problem or do we need to wait for Resolve 10?

    Thanks,

The audio is routed via AES audio into my room. It’s odd. Sometimes the audio appears in sync but other times it doesn’t. I stop the playhead when it’s out of sync and go back and replay a scene and it’s in sync. It’s not consistent. My layoffs from SDI are fine though.

April 4, 2013 at 4:00 pm in reply to: Film Workflow

Right now there is no intention to go back to film but my client did mention it could be a possibility down the road as this is a foreign film and film distribution is a possible option. So no vendor has been chosen to do a film out.

My plan was to grade in P3 as I did with the last film I worked on. Is there any advantage finding a vendor now and creating a LUT or is it fine to work in P3 for the DCP output? Then if they get distribution create a film emulation LUT that I can use to do another pass of the P3 project?

I’m also now being told the archival film is an inter-positive and not a print. Is linear still the way to go with the inter-positive? Log is supposed to be used for negative film?

    Thanks again.

You can do a high quality de-interlace in Compressor keeping it at 25p. Then you can open the clip in Cinema Tools and conform the clip to 23.98 or 24p. I believe there is a way to do it in Compressor but this is how I usually do it. If you need it to run at it’s original speed you will neeed to do a speed change on the clip. I like to use Twixtor.

I know it’s crazy. FCP clearly drops frames and doesn’t report them either. The preferences were reset just to make sure but alas the image is stuttering and FCP just keeps on going when it shouldn’t. It does warn us every now and then, it’s very intermittent. We rolled back to 10.6.8. I’ll have to look into the drivers with the new OS. I’ve had some issues with the OWC drives. They are one of the cheaper Raids on the market and I was wondering if other people were seeing problems. Smaller projects seem to work normally but the big film had lots of trouble playing back.

Thanks. I’ve understood that the P3 to Rec709 LUT helped get you into the Rec709 world but you had to do a trim pass to nail the look.
