I am currently using a Lacie 160gb d2 firewire 400/800 external and it has been working great for about a year now. In the studio I part time work at and interned with over summer the editors aside from there tons of avid media drives use maxtor’s the new metal cased one and they say they work well also. You shouldn’t have any over hearting problems with your externals I don’t think.

I did flatten the layers. I had about 5 layers. I had created a shape and copied and pasted it 4 times then made it into 1 layer.

Anyone know if this is right. The friend also said to me there is a way to do a quick render where you can view the footage but it doesnt take up near as much space as doing regular rendering?

Thanks guys, I kind of have 2 smaller questions. What is precomping or precomps someone mentioned this to me while keying or just in fcp talk, and also when you nest a sequence nesting is basically taking two sequences and putting them both into your browser or 1 sequence correct?

Very cool Michael thanks for the help everyone. It did come with a matte layer I didnt realize one would need it. What is this precomping stuff? I hear people talking about it , that is saves time or doing a quick render instead of full?

Thanks so much it did come with a matte and I didnt realize why. Do you always need to put the matte behind ur keyed footage?

Yes thank you i will try this. Although i realized the boxer did have to be keyed. I used the basic color key but I messed with the color difference and there were 3 types of eyedroppers, what do they each do? There was no plus or minus just like on a quarter filled on half filled and one empty it looked like. Also, do i need to make my text on a solid and the solid has to be a totally diff color than wat is in my text correct, or else the alpha channel wont work?
