Bradley,
Can I ask what Plug-ins won’t work with the 7300 card? I’ve not run into that yet and I have a ton on Plug-ins running. Does the better card speed up the rendering of those effects?Ernie Santella

I know this has been chatted about, but I must have a mental block (Too much lead paint as a child) What benefits do you get with a changing out the video card?
I have a Intel 2.66 with GeForce 7300GT card, Apple 30″ display (All current Apple/FCP Software etc) What would the HD3870 give me?

Yes, you play a file from FCP5. You need to export out of FCP as an H.264 file. Works perfectly. I don’t know about DVDxDV. Here’s a link to the WD website. They have info on what formats the Media Player will play.

Check to see if the View-Range Check is on/off. I remember that sometimes causes your problem if it’s ‘On’.

Is it your Varicam? Can you try playing a bit of it back in-camera to see if it’s the playback deck or a camera issue?

The camera records at 720p/59.94 no matter what frame rate you set it to. (24, 30 or 60) The camera does the 24 to 60 pulldown internally when it records. I’m not sure how you do the extraction if you are editing using a film 24fps timeline. Maybe someone else can chime in.

I’m not a Red expert, but that camera records to either a hard drive or solid-state media, not tape, so no videotape deck is needed. You need some way to get those files (wavelet codec) into an editing system to convert to MOV files.

Simple, your footage needs to be captured/digitized into a computer like Final Cut Pro. Once it is captured, it will be in MOV format. You do need to discuss with the Director and Editor as to what compression format, frame size, they would like when the footage is digitized. That will depend on what format the Editor will use in his editing.
Everyone needs to be involved in discussion, especially when different shooters, editors and cameras are used.
