Depending on how much movement you need you might try just pre-comping the particle streaks and use Mesh Warp or another Distort effect along with position, scale, rotation animation. Of course, if you need to distort it a lot with Mesh Warp it could alter the thickness of the streaks unevenly.

I don’t see any file attached, but I would assume the edge(s) of the image you are mirroring might not be totally clean. Maybe open in Photoshop and check it out. If you don’t find a problem with the edges you could just pre-compose the image and then go into it’s comp settings and reduce the width by a couple of pixels at a time until the line is gone.

It sounds like a frame rate issue or your computer is not fast enough to play back in real time. Does the raw footage itself play back normally? You said you’ve checked your comp settings already so maybe double-check that the imported footage is being interpretted correctly by right-clicking on it in the project window and going to Interpret Footage>Main.

To check if your computer is lagging, do a RAM preview with the Info panel visible and see what the playback frame rate is and also if it says “realtime” or “not realtime”.

Is the solid layer that the flares effect is on the same size as your comp?

My guess is that you had the resolution of the comp set to less than 100% when you exported the frame. Still frames, unlike video, are exported at the resolution set in the comp. BTW, you can export a layered PSD file from AE, just go to Composition>Save frame as>Photoshop Layers. Some things won’t translate to Photoshop but reasonably simple comps will usually come through OK.

I may be misunderstanding your question but you just apply a fast blur or other blur effect to the background layer.

One way might be to create an illustrator file with your tire tracks on one layer and import that into AE and just use masks to reveal the tracks as the camera flies over them. Just a thought…
