Since it’s just a flat 2D cross section of the skin I would create a single pore in photoshop and then animate the open/close of the pore with the puppet tool or mesh warp in AE in a pre-comp, then composite as many copies of the pre-comp as you need in your main comp over the skin. You could easily control the timing of the open/close animations by offsetting the pre-comps in the timeline.

I knew you were going to say that! haha
Yeah, Premiere is very tempting, especially considering the integration with the rest of the Adobe apps — amazing really. I started editing on Premiere and then got swayed into believing that everyone who’s serious uses Avid and if you want to work in the industry you had better know how to use it. That was many years ago and while it may be true for Hollywood productions it seems that many smaller houses are going with Final Cut or Premiere. Our facility is mostly Final Cut. I have the production premium suite with Premiere Pro, I just haven’t used it. Maybe it’s time to check it out.Anyway, thanks very much for the advice on the graphics cards, I may give the gts 450 a shot and see how it does. I’m still researching other options but that sounds pretty good, especially for $100 vs. $850 for the Quadro 4000.

February 12, 2011 at 2:44 am in reply to: With NVIDIA QUADRO is enough for performance boost in AE & PP cs5I’m putting together a new i7 2600k system right now and I have everything except the graphics card because I’m still unsure of what I need. The Quadro 4000 seems like a great option for premiere pro but I mainly use After Effects for 80% of my work, Avid for editing, and Softimage for 3D. So from what you are saying, it sounds like I might as well just get a GTX 460 because the other apps I use wouldn’t really benefit from the quadro? I’m not opposed to spending the money for the quadro, but only if it would be worth it. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have noticed that problem before in CS3 but not so far in CS5. Not to say for sure that it doesn’t exist in CS5, just that it hasn’t happened yet. I think it was when I had Windows XP too so that might have been the culprit. I don’t know of a fix but one thing that sometimes helps is to use Notepad as a sort of filter to remove any MS Word or HTML or other formatting on the copied text that may be causing an issue. Just paste the text into Notepad and then copy it again from Notepad and then paste into AE.

You can do it with the text animator, you just have to keyframe the end point at the times you want the paragraphs to fade up. An even faster way would be to just rectangle mask each paragraph and keyframe the mask opacity.

February 2, 2011 at 11:24 pm in reply to: markers in precomps will not update in main compIf you’re using CS3 (or maybe CS4) you’re in luck. Just select the nested pre-comp, right-click a marker and select “delete all markers”, then alt+drag the pre-comp from the project window into the comp window. This is normally used to replace footage but it also updates the comp markers in nested pre-comps (layer markers won’t show in a nested pre-comp).
Unfortunately, in CS5 this no longer works. Not sure about CS4. I used this function quite a bit myself so it’s on my complaints list for CS5.

Try “reset character” from the character palette menu.

The texture that you are using for your sphere needs to be in a 2:1 aspect ratio to keep it from distorting horizontally. That means the width needs to be exactly twice as wide as the height. That will keep it from distorting along the mid section but it will still distort at the poles because the texture will be squeezed down to a single point at the top and bottom of the sphere. To eliminate that distortion you have to use a texture that is made for mapping a sphere, like the globe textures that have the polar areas stretched out when you view them flat but when applied to a sphere they are squeezed back down to the correct size. Sorry if that’s confusing. HTH

I don’t think he mentioned the price but I’m sure it will be very reasonable. Some of their scripts like BG Renderer no longer have the “name your own price” option but it’s still only $20 for the pro version and $5 for the basic version. I guess there were too many people downloading for free and not paying anything to the authors. Sad.

Glad to help. Let us know how it works out.
