How can I sphere-ize a grid of dots so the dots on the sphere will maintain their round shape? CC Sphere will distort the dots so they become long ovals, even though viewed straight on. I’m guessing that CC Sphere distorts everything but is acceptable for most users. But when round dots are in the image, the distortion becomes a problem.

    thanks

The texture that you are using for your sphere needs to be in a 2:1 aspect ratio to keep it from distorting horizontally. That means the width needs to be exactly twice as wide as the height. That will keep it from distorting along the mid section but it will still distort at the poles because the texture will be squeezed down to a single point at the top and bottom of the sphere. To eliminate that distortion you have to use a texture that is made for mapping a sphere, like the globe textures that have the polar areas stretched out when you view them flat but when applied to a sphere they are squeezed back down to the correct size. Sorry if that’s confusing. HTH

Thank you, that fixed it (acceptably).

    cheers,
